‘House of Cards’ Casting Attracts 1k+ Hopefuls

More than 1,000 actors and fans showed up to audition for the series, encouraged to showcase his/her DC political look and have a photo wearing DC black-tie attire.

“We have to visualize them looking like a DC politician or an ambassador or a lobbyist. So if they come that way, it just makes it easier for us to visualize,” said Kimberly Skyrme, owner of the casting agency tasked with hiring local talent.

CBS Baltimore’s Gigi Barnett was there, and offers a look at casting for one of the region’s most popular shows.

On why it’s good for the economy: “Season two of ‘House of Cards’ hired over 3,700 Maryland crew, actors and extras. And they purchased and rented goods or services from over 1,900 Maryland businesses,” Jack Gerbes, director of the Maryland Film Office, told Barnett. “So it means money for the state of Maryland.”

See below for Barnett’s full report.
