How Reliable is the Source?

Before we delve into the good column that Richard Leiby put together for today, we were wondering how/if/when the Post will acknowledge that its gossip columnist is leaving. You’d think that perhaps there’d be a mention in today’s Reliable Source, since it’s the first since the news broke on Friday, but no, not a word. Washingtonian (with a quote from Leiby’s editor) and Wonkette also reported it on Friday. Will the Post’s readers be the last to know he’s leaving?

On to the interesting nuggets in today’s news:

  • Anderson Cooper is on record in this month in Details saying his mother’s steamy memoir last fall was a little, well, shocking: “I used to think there was nothing worse than imagining your own parents having sex. I was wrong. You know what’s worse? Learning your parents’ sex life is more interesting than your own,” he writes.
  • As if the Washington magazine world wasn’t crowded enough, the Flyer–the 17-year-old airport mag–is relaunching as a general regional circulation publication. With all the launch parties this month (including one last weekend for Two Mundos and an Indebleu soiree Thursday for Modern Luxury’s forthcoming D.C. glossy) the area could almost use an air traffic controller just for the parties.

Also today:
  • The Jeff Gannon Q&A is out today in the NYT. We did highlights earlier, and there’s not much more to report except that he has a dog named Winston who loves him.
  • Last and most importantly, Dana “Bore” Milbank has a must-read about the dangers of self-segregation in news processing. We tend to agree with him.
