“The Other City” — a documentary based on a 2007 WaPo story by Jose Antonio Vargas, now a New York-based senior contributing editor for HuffPost — hosts its D.C. premiere at the Newseum tonight at 6p.m. as part of the Silverdocs film festival.

“It’s gonna be quite a crowd, with some 425 seats in the main theater,” Vargas wrote to FishbowlDC. “It’s bringing together The Two Washingtons in one room, which is really the goal of the film.

“I’m forever indebted to Sheila Johnson and Susan Koch. We shared a vision to tell the story of The Other Washington and to reignite the conversation about AIDS in America, almost 30 years after we first identified the disease.”

Confirmed guests include: Melody Barnes, the White House’s director of domestic policy council; Jeff Crowley, director of Office of National AIDS Policy; Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.); sports/entertainment mogul Ted Leonsis; author Kitty Kelley; and a variety of local AIDS activists and workers.

The film will be shown from 6:30 to 8 p.m. followed by a town hall style Q&A.
