In Memoriam: Art Buchwald (1925-2007)

buchart.jpgArt Buchwald has passed away at his home in Washington, D.C.

As a humorist and commentator, Buchwald charmed the city by poking enough fun at politics that we had no choice but to laugh at ourselves. His brave fight against kidney failure was courageous because he elected not to fight it, opting to forego kidney dialysis and let his final days come to him as they may.

In a town that needs to laugh more — and needs people like Buchwald to point out how silly the whole circus can be at times — Buchwald will be sorely missed.

Hear Diane Rehm’s interview with him or read Ronald G. Shafer’s piece for the Post entitled, “The Genius of Art Buchwald.”

The Post’s obituary can be found here.

Rachel Sklar pays tribute here.
