On the cover of its second issue of 2014, Capitol File features Second Lady of the United States Jill Biden.
And inside, CapFile Editor in Chief Elizabeth Thorp sits down with Dr. Biden to discuss her love of teaching, commitment to military families, and how the Second Lady of the United States manages to stay grounded.
FishbowlDC caught up with Thorp this afternoon to get some deets on her sit down with Dr. Jill Biden. Here’s what she had to say.
FishbowlDC: Jill Biden? That’s awesome! How did you land that?
Elizabeth Thorp: I have lived in DC for over 20 years and have many friends who have worked in the White House and for the Bidens. I met with Dr. Biden’s senior staffer and walked her through my vision for the piece. As a working mom, I have always admired Dr. Biden. She’s a Ph.D. with a paying job as an educator while serving as America’s Second Lady. And somehow she still finds still the time to advocate for members of the military and carve out family time.
FBDC: How long was this in the works?
Thorp: A couple of months.
FBDC: What was your first thought when you heard it went through?
Thorp: Total elation. Then a bit of terror. I wanted to do right by Dr. Biden and accurately capture her passion for teaching, her family, and her causes. She was so gracious and so genuine, she made the interview very easy for me.
