Smithsonian magazine is announcing today that they have brought on New York magazine contributor Matthew Shaer as a staff writer. Shaer is a fiction writer as well as a journalist and his work has also been published in GQ,Harper’s, Mental Floss, Fortune and Foreign Policy. He and his wife, an art historian, currently live in Durham, North Carolina. They’ll be moving to the D.C. area this summer. Matt’s first day on the job is scheduled for May 5.
