Media Person of the Year

I Want Media, “a Web site focusing on diversified media news and resources,” is beginning its search for the 2005 ‘Media Person of the Year.’

Jon Stewart won last year, beating out Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, and Bill O’Reilly.

Although the conventional wisdom this year is that the winner will somehow be connected to Plamegate, there are some others who could eke out a win. Could Peter Jennings’ passing earn him the symapthy vote? Will Ted Koppel’s departure earn him some support? Or will Scott McClellan receive the honors for simply putting up with the media?

Besides, I Want Media’s contest tends to produce some quirky results. Not only was Stewart’s win last year somewhat of a surprise, so, too, were the runners-up (in order):

  • Howard Stern
  • Karl Rove
  • Ana Marie Cox
  • Janet Jackson

Of course, quirky seems to be the name of the game this year when it comes to end of the year lists: Apparently, “Mother nature” tops Time magazines unofficial list of candidates for “Person of the Year.”
