Midgette Replaces Tim Page

From a Washington Post internal announcement, obtained by FishbowlDC:

We are delighted to announce that Anne Midgette is the Post’s new classical music critic. She has been filling in on a temporary basis since January.

Anne was a classical music critic for the New York Times from 2001 to early this year. Before that she was a cultural correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and worked as a teacher, translator and editor. She has been a frequent contributor to the Los Angeles Times, Opera News and a variety of other magazines and newspapers. She has written for several of the top newspapers in Germany (in German) and has translated books from French and German into English.

In addition to music, she has written about dance, theater, culture and visual arts. She co-authored “The King and I: The Uncensored Tale of Luciano Pavarotti’s Rise to Fame by His Manager, Friend and Sometime Adversary,” with Herbert Breslin. She is working on an historical novel about the woman who built pianos for Beethoven. Anne is a graduate of Yale University, where she majored in classical civilization.

The paper’s classical critic, Tim Page, took the buyout.
