achievement in electronic journalism in the large market website
category from the Radio-Television News Directors Association.
Jenn Crandall’s onBeing won a Special Distinction Award in the
Knight-Batten Awards for Innovations in Journalism. The judges said
of the video portrait series, “It’s different. It makes you cry. Itâ€™s
a model for the future of news.”
onBeing won a silver medal in the features category from the Society
for News Design, which also awarded a gold medal in the non-breaking
news category to Travis Fox’s Crisis in Darfur Expands.
Being a Black Man won an Online Convergence Award from the Associated
Press Managing Editors.
Washingtonpost.com was nominated for four Online Journalism Awards by
the Online News Association. We were finalists in the following
categories: Overall Excellence, Outstanding Use of Digital Media for
OnBeing, Service Journalism for the Lean Plate Club and Investigative
Journalism for Walter Reed and Beyond. While we didn’t bring home
any awards, we were happy to receive the most nominations of any site
in the large-site category.
