Scarborough imitates Olbermann. Today is the birthday of Molly Gannon. The First Friday Collective announced, “The voting for this year’s DBoTY was very heavy, and close for a long time. But in the end, we had a clear winner(s) — Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews of the left-wing PR machine known as MSNBC.” Check out today’s White House Photo of the Day from Time. Today’s “Angry Journalist” rant of the day: “Why did I ever decide to work for the Moonies? What a terrible idea. This paper has so many issues I have not idea where to start. The only reason it still exists is due to its crazy cult leader owner.”

  • A release announced, “Air America Media (www.airamerica.com) has hired Ana Marie Cox as its first Washington, D.C.-based national correspondent, traveling the country to profile people and stories illustrating life in America. She will contribute text, video and audio content to airamerica.com, as well as to a weekly program to air on Air America’s radio network. Cox will debut on Air America on Monday, January 19 to report from the nation’s capital for Air America’s Inauguration coverage.”

  • Playbook reports, “Christina Reynolds will be the White House Director of Media Affairs, working for Ellen Moran and Dan Pfeiffer in White House Communications. Christina was the rapid response director on the campaign. She was Senator Edwards’ research director and, like Dan, is a veteran of the Tim Johnson and Tom Daschle Senate races.”

  • TVNewser’s Steve Krakauer reports, “CBS News’ Byron Pitts is joining 60 Minutes as a contributing correspondent. Pitts has appeared periodically on the program since 2006, and will contribute at least six stories during the ’09-’10 season.”

  • Potomac Flacks reports, “Pam Stevens has been named the Director of Communications for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure. The Foundation is opening an office in Washington, DC and Pam will head their Communications efforts for both public policy and overall media for the organization in DC.”

  • An AP release announced, “The Associated Press will mobilize its most comprehensive multiplatform reporting effort ever for a U.S. inauguration, including live and interactive coverage on the Online Video Network, for the Jan. 20 swearing-in of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States in Washington, D.C. AP, which has been covering American presidents since the 1848 election of Zachary Taylor, produced on election night in November the news agency’s first continuous online live video stream. The webcast of the 56th presidential inauguration will stream, starting with live pictures around 7 a.m. ET and anchored coverage about 10 a.m., on AP’s Online Video Network, which distributes the news agency’s acclaimed video content to some 2,000 Web sites of newspapers, broadcasters and other customers throughout the U.S. Look for access details on the home page of the corporate Internet site at www.ap.org”

  • A release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research data, ‘NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams’ was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of January 5 — 11, 2009. It was a strong week for the newscast as it averaged nearly ten million total viewers (9.903 million).”

  • A release announced, “ABC’s ‘World News with Charles Gibson’ averaged 9.06 million Total Viewers and a 2.3/8 among Adults 25-54, placing second for the week of January 5th. This marks ABC’s best Total Viewer and demo deliveries in three weeks. Week-to-week, ‘World News’ grew the most of any evening newscast among Total and demo viewers, increasing 11% and 15%, respectively.”

  • THR.com reports, “President-elect Barack Obama is on his way to the big screen, thanks to a deal between MSNBC and Screenvision that will put the news channel’s inaugural coverage in 27 theaters around the country. Free tickets are being handed out via MSNBC.com to see the inauguration and parade from 11 a.m. — 3:30 p.m. ET at the 27 theaters run by 11 exhibitor partners in 21 markets. Midday Tuesday isn’t necessarily a big movie time, so it helps to fill the theater — and boost popcorn and soda sales — at a time when it’s not usually busy.”

  • washingtonpost.com will be hosting live video coverage of the Presidential Inauguration on Tuesday, January 20th. Coverage begins when the Obama family leaves Blair House around 8 am ET and concludes after the Inaugural parade around 5 pm ET.

  • ValleyWag reports, “The editors and writers of the Los Angeles Times could shut off the presses tomorrow and live off its website, media pundit Jeff Jarvis claims. But the numbers don’t add up. Jarvis, a former ink-stained wretch, calls it a historic moment. Perhaps it is for him, since the Entertainment Weekly founder has made a career out of guiding old media organizations into digital nirvana. To make his living, it helps if he can argue that there’s a pot of gold at the end of the online rainbow.”

Thursday January 15 at 10 a.m., D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier and Metro General Manager John Catoe will answer questions from WTOP reporters and listeners. They will discuss inauguration security and transportation issues. Metro expects record ridership because of the extensive bridge and road closings. Finally, Friday January 16 at 10 a.m., a special edition of ‘The Politics Program with Mark Plotkin.’ Guests include Reagan advance man Jim Kuhn, Harry McPherson, former Lyndon Johnson speech writer and veteran of many inaugurations, as well as former Boston Globe columnist Tom Oliphant who has attended every inauguration since 1969. They will focus on the great history and pageantry surrounding the event.”
