NEWSPAPERS

Boston Globe: The Boston Globe‘s largest union tonight narrowly rejected $10 million in wage and benefit cuts, and about an hour later the paper’s owner declared an impasse in negotiations and imposed a 23 percent pay cut on the union’s members, effective next week.

NYT‘s coverage: Many guild members who opposed the package said they did so believing that further negotiations might result in a better deal.

“I can see the day, maybe 20 years away, where you don’t actually have paper and ink and printing presses,” Rupert Murdoch in Guardian here.

TV

Check out CBS News President Sean McManus on Bob Schieffer‘s future here. “… there are not many Bob Schieffers in the world. You’ve seen what happened at NBC – there are a couple of people at every news organization that are irreplaceable. Tim Russert is in that category and Bob Schieffer falls in that category. There are options internally and externally that we’ve discussed but there is not a great option if and when Bob decides not to do that job. The good news is he’s as energized and engaged as he’s been in the last 10 years.”

Fox News Channel VP of news editorial Jay Wallace was named to the 2009 “Next Wave of Leaders” list by Broadcasting & Cable.

ONLINE

NBC News and Three Part Media LLC have teamed to launch TheGrio.com, a “video centric news site” aimed at the African American community. More dets at WebNewser.

WEST WING REPORTAGE
