Boston Globe: The Boston Globe‘s largest union tonight narrowly rejected $10 million in wage and benefit cuts, and about an hour later the paper’s owner declared an impasse in negotiations and imposed a 23 percent pay cut on the union’s members, effective next week.
NYT‘s coverage: Many guild members who opposed the package said they did so believing that further negotiations might result in a better deal.

You’ve seen what happened at NBC – there are a couple of people at every news organization that are irreplaceable. Tim Russert is in that category and Bob Schieffer falls in that category. There are options internally and externally that we’ve discussed but there is not a great option if and when Bob decides not to do that job. The good news is he’s as energized and engaged as he’s been in the last 10 years.”

Mediaweek: Executives at the Big Four broadcast networks, upset that President Barack Obama has cumulatively cost them more than $30 million in revenue from preempted prime-time programming for three press conferences, say getting advertisers to sponsor future press events as a way to recoup lost revenue isn’t a viable option.
