  • An NBC release announced that “Meet the Press” had “abnormal start times throughout the country last Sunday, July 8th due to Wimbledon tennis coverage on NBC. According to Nielsen Media Research data, the program was labeled a special, and therefore this edition of ‘Meet the Press’ will not be included in the week or season-to-date average.”

  • An ABC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research for Sunday, July 8, 2007, ABC News ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos’ outperformed CBSs ‘Face the Nation’ in both Total Viewers and Among Adults 25-54. This is the 14th time this season ‘This Week’ beat ‘Face the Nation’ in the key Adults 25-54 demographic. It also marks the 12th time this season ‘This Week’ outperformed ‘Face’ in Total Viewers.”

  • The Boston Phoenix reports, Gene Weingarten gets “panned” by Billy Dennis, author of the Peoria Pundits blog, “who laid into Weingarten in a post titled ‘Mayor Defends Peoria’s Honor Against Beltway Smartass.’”

  • “To get a sense of what these sites offer and how the candidates use them, The Project for Excellence in Journalism conducted a detailed study of the official Web sites of all 19 announced presidential candidates-eight Democrats and 11 Republicans.”

  • Poynter Online’s Chip Scanlon launched a new feature called “Ask Chip,” and “offers answers to anyone with questions about reporting, writing, editing, interviewing, productivity, time management or collaboration, to name a few areas that I think I can address.”

  • Fox News launched Update ’08, their “daily read.”

  • A reader tells us, “iPhones do not (yet) support custom ring tones, and ‘No More I Love Yous’ is not one of the built-in ring tones, so Julie Mason must be confused.”

  • Poynter Online reports, “On June 29, the much-publicized, well-funded network of community sites, Backfence, announced it was ceasing operations.” And Backfence co-founder Mark Potts responds.
