We’ve got your morning mix of media Muesli after the jump…

Today is the birthday of J.P. Friere. Also: Sen. Alan Simpson and Rep. Jim DeMint. Tomorrow? Brian Stelter and John Mercurio. Thursday? Glynnis MacNicol! 45 years ago, CBS extended its nightly news cast from 15 minutes to 30. 108 years ago, Teddy Roosevelt coined the “speak softly and carry a big stick” line. 64 years ago, George H.W. Bush was shot down in WWII. 25 years ago, Tom Brokaw over took over as sole anchor of “Nightly News.” Today’s “Angry Journalist” rant of the day: “Screw Web media. We aren’t TV. We’re a damn newsPAPER! PAPER PAPER PAPER! Rawr!” Check out today’s White House Photo of the Day from Time.

    ONLINE MEDIA

  • “The mercurial nature of breaking news is the backdrop for the launch of PJTV, a new online television venture by Pajamas Media. The PJTV team has been in St. Paul preparing for the Republican National Convention. Coverage will launch today even with the limited convention schedule and continue from St. Paul this week. The groundbreaking venture is about to drop the cost of launching a television network substantially given the power and reach of the Internet. PJM has over 90 correspondents in 47 countries and has just constructed new studios at its Los Angeles headquarters. PJTV has a broadcast position inside the Xcel Center in St. Paul”

    NEWS NOTES

  • TVNewser reports, “If there hasn’t already been a movie about Palin (To Die For) starring Nicole Kidman…they will be…Okay she totally reminds us of a Nicole Kidman character. Doesn’t she? Vehement, slightly creepy with amazing skin.”

  • Washington Post’s Sally Quinn writes, “My first reaction was shock. Then anger. John McCain chose a running mate simply because she is a woman and one who appealed to the Republican’s conservative evangelical base. Now, with news that Palin’s 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant, McCain’s pick may not even find support among ‘family values’ voters.”
