Morris Is #880 In D.C.’s Book
The spokesperson for Mayor Tony Williams, Vince Morris, formerly the Washington writer for the New York Post pulled some strings while he writing for the tabloid, according to the new issue of the City Paper.
Prior to becoming a flack, the reporter got a low-number license plate of the kind that denotes some political connections in this city. You know, the kind of license plate that says to cops “Pulling me over is going to be a lot more hassle than it’s worth. Go nail a tourist from Ohio.”
WTOP has been tracking down the low number plates and they found that Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans gave Morris #880 after the tab writer and Ward 2 resident asked for one in 2002. “Both my wife and I were supportive of Jack,” Morris told the paper. “I covered the White House, so I didn’t feel there was any kind of conflict for me to be involved in city politics.”
His old bosses seem to think a bit differently. The NY Post’s response? Morris’ then-boss, Political Editor Gregg Birnbaum, told the City Paper he was “unaware that one of the reporters from the New York Post had obtained a low-number license plate. And, if you know me, you would know I don’t like to be unaware of those kinds of things.”
