Just in time for White House Correspondents Weekend, Blo Blow Dry Bar (2126 P St. NW) has opened blocks from the Washington Hilton where the dinner takes place. And on Friday, former MTV reality star and fashion designer Whitney Port hosted its launch event with owner Maha Sharma.
What is Blo Blow Dry Bar? We asked ourselves the same question! Blo is North America’s original (and first!) blow dry bar. Think hair salon minus the scissors and dye, leaving you with a wash, dry, and style. Blo Dupont is the chain’s 38th location, including Miami, Austin, Russia, and the Philippines.
Naturally, FishbowlDC was in attendance, and we caught up with Port and Sharma on Michelle Obama’s fashion, looking your best on television, and what we can expect style-wise at this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner.
On House of Cards style…
Whitney Port: “Robin Wright’s character is very sophisticated and chic and I think she does amazing on that show.”
On Michelle Obama’s style…
WP: “I think she always looks so beautiful and sophisticated. I think she dresses herself appropriately for her figure and status…She always looks amazing.”
FishbowlDC: What women’s hair styles do you expect to see come this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner?
Maha Sharma: “The perfect ponytail will be huge! It’s sophisticated and polished – both great looks for dining with our Prez. On our hair menu, Blo’s ponytail is called “the hunt club,” and all our session stylists have perfected the do. Hybrids of the Kim Kardashian waves (“holly would” on Blo’s hair menu) will also be huge. Alternatively, our “pillow talk” style – put-together tousled waves – is also a great hit for formal gatherings, like the White House Correspondents Dinner.”
FBDC: You have probably the best spot in Washington for women to get their hair blown out right before the big night. Are you ready to meet the crazy demand?
MS: ”We can’t wait to blo DC away! We have uber talented session stylists on staff. They’ve all mastered catwalk-worthy blowouts and updos and can achieve any look on our hair menu in 45 minutes or less. We’re ready and excited to provide flawless hairstyles to Washingtonians.”
FBDC: Any advice for on air personalities looking for a last minute revamp for their hair?
MS: Investing in a dry shampoo will change your life. I’m proud to announce that we’ve partnered with Unite as our exclusive product line. Unite is a superior quality, upscale, luxury product line which is vegan, sulfate, and paraben free. They have one product called the 7 Seconds Refresher. It’s the answer to all women’s prayers asking for flawless hair. We love it at Blo because it makes your blowout last longer – and it helps maintain your do between washes. Absolutely perfect for that last minute touchup before going on-air.”
In attendance: Capitol File’s Elizabeth Thorp, New York Post’s and former Yeas & Nay’er Tara Palmeri, Washingtonian’s Irina Grechko and Diana Elbasha, WJLA’s Jummy Olabanji, BET’s Angel Elliott, InTheCapital’s Sophie Pyle, Washington Whisper’s Nikki Schwab, Bloomberg’s Stephanie Green, BrightestYoungThings’s Svetlana Legetic, K Street Magazine’s Kate Michael, Worn Magazine’s Nicole Aguirre, Bitches Who Brunch’s Rebecca Loveridge, and Panda Head Blog’s Morgan Hungerford West.
The launch, which featured Veuve Clicquot Rosé champagne and cupcakes by Frosting A Cupcakery, kicked off Blo’s week-long partnership with the Washington Humane Society. Through March 29, the bar will donate 25% of proceeds from every service to the charity. Go to blomedry.com or download the Blo App to book.
