Nice Nightline Numbers
DeSales Street denizens are celebrating some good new ratings numbers for “Nightline.” Last week, the network’s late-night news show reported its biggest numbers in TV’s key demographic, 25-54, since early February and even, on one night, beat CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman.” (FYI, the May 4 show featured a CIA agent’s view inside the Osama bin Laden search.)
Compared to the same week in sweeps a year ago, “Nightline” declined only 1% in that key demo, while Leno declined 18%, and Letterman grew 2%.
If the show is performing well–especially in the key demo that drives advertising rates–what will this mean for everyone writing the show’s obituary? Will ABC reconsider its plans?
