Nightline Goes HD (At Least For A Night)

nightline.gifNightline tonight will offer its first show shot in high definition. The show, “Extinction,” traces some of the effects of global warming on species around the world. Correspondent Bill Blakemore traveled with producer Jay LaMonica and an HDTV camera crew from the mountains of Madagascar to the tropical forests of Costa Rica for a first-hand look at “how different species of frogs, butterflies and orchid plants are impacted by the higher temperatures,” the network says.

There aren’t any current plans to take Nightline all-HD so tonight’s show will be a bit of a teaser, and it won’t be entirely in HD either: You’ll have to wait a little longer to see Ted Koppel himself in high def.

Nevertheless, network sources who have seen it say it’s a beautiful show, more National Geographic than network news.
