NJ’s Friel to CQ

In a memo to staff this morning, Susan Benkelman announced that National Journal reporter Brian Friel will be joining CQ to cover Senate leadership on the Inside Congress Team. Prior to his seven years at NJ, Friel worked at Government Executive magazine.

See Benkelman’s full memo after the jump.

To the news staff: I’m happy to announce that Brian Friel will be joining Congressional Quarterly as our Senate leadership reporter. He’ll be a staff writer on the Inside Congress team, reporting to Anne Hoy, starting July 5. Brian comes to us from National Journal, where he’s worked for the past seven years, writing prolifically on a variety of topics including the budget, transportation, education, immigration and justice, among others. Prior to that, he worked at Government Executive magazine, where he rose from being a college intern to managing editor of the web site, then to staff correspondent. Brian, who studied journalism at American University and the University of Maryland University College, is a strong policy journalist with great versatility both in terms of subject matter and platform, as he writes about a number of different topics for both print and online, daily and weekly. We’re excited he’s joining the CQ team. Susan
