It’s certainly not uncommon in the media world for layoffs to follow mergers. But, in the wake of the acquisition of Knight Ridder and the sale of some its long-time papers, McClatchy is hiring for its DC bureau. Openings include a regional reporter for Lexington, Ky., Columbus, Ga. and Macon, Ga. and one for Anchorage, Alaska and Boise, Idaho; a Mexico correspondent, a Congressional correspondent and a foreign editor.

What this means for the integration of the highly respected former Knight Ridder bureau beats us. Anybody have any scoops?
