One For The File: Post’s Schroeder?

In one fell swoop, our opinions of Jason Binn and Karen Feld have gone up.

Feld’s gossip column, which too often is frightenly devoid of gossip, has a pretty major scoop: It looks like the Post’s gossip gal Anne Schroeder will be leaving the 15th Street newsroom to be executive editor of luxury glossy Capitol File.

If he’s looking to make a splash and connect with all the Right People, Jason Binn, File’s playboy publisher, has made the smartest hire he could in this city. The remarkably talented Schroeder has been underappreciated in the #2 gossip slot for too long, and with the tea leaves saying she wouldn’t get the promotion post-Leiby, this is a great move for her too. It’s a big loss for the Post–especially odd that it could let her slip through its fingers because the paper has a pretty good record of recognizing and rewarding talent.

Overall, Binn–who normally is as much as a publicity hound as anyone–has been playing his File line-up close to his chest, so this rumor (as yet unconfirmed by Schroeder or File staff) can’t have originated with him. The Post’s newsroom gossip chain, though, was probably working overtime at what it does best: Collecting news and then disseminating it.
