Online News is Smokin’

Online news sites appear to be going gangbusters right now. Demand for online advertising is booming and website traffic is soaring. The Post snapped up Slate and Dow Jones devoured CBS Marketwatch for over half-a-billion (with a ‘b’!) dollars. Online advertising will reach about $9.7 billion this year, up 19 percent.

Perhaps all this interest is related to the AP’s Tech Editor weighing in saying, “The sovereignty of Big Journalism is eroding,” or perhaps it’s related to the pending official launch of MediaBistro’s Fishbowl DC, Fishbowl NY, and Fishbowl LA.

We think the latter.
