Paywall Doesn’t Pay for Newsday

In October, Newsday announced a $4 million dollar initiative to relaunch their website; complete with a paywall that would grant visitors Web access for $5 a week. Print and local subscriber to Optimum Cable maintained free access.

So, how’s it going? The Long Island newspaper has had a whopping 35 readers sign up since the relaunch while their traffic has dropped from 2.2 million in October to 1.5 million in December (Nielsen Media Online).

Yikes!
