Post Says Goodbye To Buyout Takers

The Washington Post held a party yesterday for those taking the paper’s buyout package.

  • Bo Jones read the names of more than 100 of those who took the buyout, with a couple sentences about each. Some were pressmen and salesmen who’d been here for more than 40 years.

  • Don Graham tugged hearts by saying, “You’re my people.”

  • David Broder, Pat O’Shea (Downie’s longtime assistant and a beloved figure in the newsroom) and Phyllis Waslo (runs the paper’s nursing station) all received standing ovations. Science reporter Rick Weiss received what was described to us as a “partial standing-o.”
