Post vs. BoingBoing Redux: Much Ado About Nothing?

As the dust begins to settle in the mini-controversy between BoingBoing and the Washington Post, the emerging consensus seems to be that most of those concerned are more agitated by the allegations against Brian Krebs than by any alleged wrongdoing on his part. Ryan Singel over at Wired News comes to Krebs’ defense and calls the controversy a sideshow.

Various other sources seem to agree with the assessment that Krebs is being unfairly characterized for simply posting slightly later that BoingBoing.

All in all, covering the same story as another reporter and conveying the same information does not constitute plagiarism. As Singel says:

There’s only so many ways to write that the FBI says they didn’t arrest any student in Bloomington but doesn’t comment on investigations further than that.
