Remembering ABC’s John McWethy

ABC has posted the 17-minute John McWethy tribute video shown at yesterday’s memorial service at the Newseum. Check it out here.

About 400 people attended the service, which included music by the US Army Chorus and String Quartet, and tributes by David Westin (President of ABC News), Sam Donaldson, David Martin of CBS, and Charles Gibson, ABC anchor.

They quoted some memorable advice from the super competitive, but compassionate McWethy. They included a poem to his wife Laurie: “It is where you are and who you are – not where your’re going or why.” McWehty also advised: enjoy as many sunrises as you can and don’t confuse work with life.

A fellowship has been established in the name of John McWethy at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

More from John Eggerton.
