Robin Wright: Claire Not Based on Hillary

In an interview with Capitol File, Robin Wright says that her character in House of Cards, Claire Underwood, is not based on Hillary Clinton.

“People were suggesting to base the character on Hillary Clinton or other strong women personas,” she told the mag. “And I didn’t want to do that.”

Instead, she says, to get into character, she took Executive Producer David Fincher’s notes to “be still.”

“David would come over to me and say, ‘Don’t move. Don’t move. Claire is a bust.’ Now when I have the Claire clothes, the Claire hair, and say the Claire words, it just clicks. I’m completely and totally still”

The actress also said in the interview that she and co-star Kevin Spacey “giggle a lot” on set, and that she had never been on a date before until she met her fiance Ben Foster.

The newest issue of Capitol File, which includes the full interview with Wright, comes out February 24th.
