Roll Call Loses Deputy Editor

FishbowlDC has confirmed that Erin Billings has resigned from her post at Roll Call. Currently the publication’s deputy editor, Billings has been with Roll Call for nearly a decade. She joined the paper’s team in 2001 as a staff writer and in 2004 became a senior writer covering House and Senate leadership. Prior to joining Roll Call, she worked as a statehouse reporter in Helena, Montana.

We understand that Billings has accepted another job but have not yet confirmed her next move. We’ll update as we find out more.

UPDATE: Billings is joining BGR Public Relations as vice president. BGR’s Jeff Birnbaum told FishbowlDC by email, “I could not be happier to have her here as we build a truly successful, Washington-based PR practice. She begins next month.”

Memo announcing Billings’s departure from Roll Call‘s Scott Montgomery after the jump.

I am very sad to announce that Erin Billings is leaving Roll Call. For 10 solid years, Erin has been a vital force in our newsroom, first driving stories and then driving reporters. She was hired as web reporter in 2001 and before too long she was an anchor for Roll Call on Capitol Hill, reporting from both chambers. After a couple of stops on the editor ladder Erin became Deputy Editor in 2009, and since then she has led our House and Senate team with energy and distinction.

Erin is leaving to become a Vice President with BGR Public Relations. We can’t say enough how much we appreciate all Erin has done for Roll Call, or how much we’ll miss having her in the newsroom. She’ll be with us through the end of this month and we wish her well.

Said Erin: It’s been one heck of a ride. I learned from and worked among some of the best reporters and editors in this town. It was easy to stay this long, and I leave with a heavy heart. But I am ready for a new adventure, a new challenge. I will miss you all.
