Shuffle, Layoffs at Chronicle of Higher Ed

Last week The Chronicle of Higher Education said goodbye to several colleagues.  A total of four positions were eliminated – two marketing and one web staffer were cut completely.  One position in the rag’s advertising department transitioned from full-time to contract work and one editorial staffer re-applied for a position in a different department.

Michael Solomon, a spokesman for The Chronicle told FishbowlDC that the cuts were in line with the current economic environment.  “These changes are just part of a refocusing,” said Solomon.  “It’s part of a global effort to better match the revenue coming in.”

For now, the group’s editorial staff seems safe. “I don’t anticipate any cuts in editorial in the near future,” added Solomon.
