Street Rumors

harwoodcnbc.jpgThe Wall Street Journal today announced another overhaul of its Washington Wire, but is an ever larger overhaul underway of how the WSJ covers D.C.?

We’re hearing some chatter “on the street” that the Wall Street Journal’s stellar political reporter John Harwood, host of the best head of hair in Washington, may soon (voluntarily) depart the Journal for a gig with CNBC. Journal colleagues say they haven’t heard anything.

Having already lost Al Hunt to rising star Bloomberg, is the Journal losing another one of its best political minds? And why CNBC? Is the channel, whose ratings have never been high, hoping to hang with the big boys?

Perhaps Harwood, who is frequently a guest on political talk shows, has been seduced away from print by the television lights?
