Former NBC White House and Washington correspondent Kevin Corke has landed a new gig in Miami. He writes on Facebook: “FINALLY GOT A JOB! I am the new main anchor at WTVJ (NBC) in Miami. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and prayers throughout. Come see me in South Florida!” We’ll have a Q&A with Corke on FBDC later today.

NPR’s “Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me” is on the road. NBC’s Brian Williams will join the show from Carnegie Hall this week for the “Not My Job” segment.

NEWS NOTES

The debate over health care reform is back as the biggest story last week, according to Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism. This is the highest level of coverage since President Obama’s prime-time speech the week of September 7-13. But, obviously, late in the week, “balloon boy” captivated the media.

IN MEMORIAM

CBS remembered legendary CBS newsman Don Hewitt, who died in August, yesterday at the Time Warner Center. Morley Safer, Andy Rooney, Bill O’Reilly, Diane Sawyer, Charlie Gibson, Mike Wallace, Rome Hartman, “60 Minutes” executive producer Jeff Fager, Les Moonves, actor Alan Alda and Hewitt family were present. “Don was utterly incapable of small talk,” said Safer. “Don liked to boast he could cut the Lord’s prayer in half and make it better.”

Fox News vs. the White House…

Above, White House communications director Anita Dunna again commented on Fox News, this time on CNN’s “Reliable Sources with Howard Kurtz” on Sunday. “The reality of it is that Fox often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party,” Dunn said in the interview posted above.

NYT: “Attacking the news media is a time-honored White House tactic but to an unusual degree, the Obama administration has narrowed its sights to one specific organization, the Fox News Channel, calling it, in essence, part of the political opposition.”

In other TV news…

PBS’ “Frontline” premieres a new season tomorrow with “Obama’s War,” a documentary on the war in Afghanistan, which includes an interview with General Stanley A. McChrystal. Preview here.

ABC’s Cynthia McFadden will sit down with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Moscow for an interview to air on “Nightline,” “GMA” and “World News Tonight” Wednesday. More dets here.

FishbowlNY’s Amanda Ernst makes her debut on “Today.” And she gets rowdy with NBC’s Hoda Kotb.

Jamie Gangel had an exclusive with Rush Limbaugh for “Today” and NBC platforms. Part one is here and part two airs tomorrow. On the media, Limbaugh said, “I know how to yank their chain” (h/t TVNewser).

And that was CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo hosting NBC’s coverage of the Columbus Day Parade in NY today.

Politico on Think Progress.

HuffPost has launched a new section today on hot-button issues. “Impact” includes a widget so that readers can “plot a course of action,” if they want to donate to a cause, for example (h/t NYO).

And HuffPost notes: “Progressive bloggers were in an uproar Sunday night after a White House “adviser,” speaking on condition of anonymity, urged them to “take off their pajamas” and get serious about politics. NBC White House correspondent John Harwood relayed the quote during a segment he shot for Nightly News following a massive gay rights rally in Washington.”

CBS’ Michelle Levi made her debut in front of the camera on “Washington Unplugged” Friday. She’s one of the daily webcast’s producers.

The President woke up this morning a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Above is the photo that was brought to White House press secretary Robert Gibbs in yesterday’s press briefing. It’s of the President playing basketball with Reggie Love, now an aide, former Duke basketball star. We hear the pic’s now hanging in the West Wing and Gibbs says it’s signed by (and with) Love. The White House will be posting new pics on flikr today.

Mediaite: ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos appeared last night on Sean Hannity‘s Fox News. After Hannity brought up safe school czar Kevin Jennings and insinuated dangerous statements, Stephanopoulos countered: “I donÂ’t think you have the goods on this one Sean.”

Stephen Colbert on Glenn Beck: “Clearly Glenn Beck is as sincere in what he says and does as I am in believing baby carrots are trying to turn me gay.”

ABC Jonathan Karl here: NBC Correspondent Richard Engel is taking sides in the debate over what to do next in Afghanistan.

A run-down of interviews with world leaders with the UN General Assembly meeting, courtesy of TVNewser. And also on TVNewser, the 2008-2009 evening news ratings- NBC’s “Nightly News” wins the seasons, CBS and ABC both had decreases in total viewers.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is recovering from swine flu.

Fox News is the most and the least trusted news source. A national Sacred Heart University survey found only one-quarter of news consumers say they believe all or most of news media reporting- 30% say Fox News is the most-trusted and a comparable 26.2% says it is the least-trusted. (Poynter)

The Fix is looking for your recommendations for the best political reporters from each state. “One of the Fix’s pleasures in life — yes, we know we are weird — is reading the work of the best political reporters from across the country to get a on-the-ground sense for what’s happening in the states.”

RTNDA (Radio & TV News Directors Association) will soon be known as RTDNA – The Radio, TV, Digital News Association, effective Oct. 13th. From the website: “RTDNA will still do what it does best — protect journalists and allow them to provide unencumbered coverage, offer training in the best practices for all digital journalists, and recognize excellence within the field of journalism. We’ll just do it with a renewed sense of purpose, a more inclusive spirit and a new name.”

USA Today: The FBI destroyed its files on former CBS News anchorman Walter Cronkite two years ago under a policy that has been criticized by researchers for allowing potentially valuable records to be wiped out. Cronkite’s death in July made any FBI files about him available for release under the federal law.

NYT columnist and author Thomas Friedman returned a $75,000 speaker’s fee. LAT reports that the reversal came after a “misunderstanding” about the engagement with the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution — and How It Can Renew America.”

One of the biggest stories this week was the murder of five American troops by a fellow sergeant at Camp Liberty in Baghdad. In her report, ABC’s senior foreign affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz had video from inside the clinic where the shooting took place. “Just a few weeks earlier, on her 20th reporting trip to Iraq, she had spent an afternoon at Camp Liberty in Baghdad,” reports The New York Observer’s Felix Gillette. “Ms. Raddatz had spent an entire afternoon interviewing the clinic’s staff members for her report on how the military was coping with the recent uptick in suicides.”

TVNewser reports news orgs were asked not to name the “other woman” during interviews with Elizabeth Edwards. In three TV interviews, Hunter, “the other woman” in the John Edwards affair, Rielle Hunter, was not mentioned.

On the same note, AP reports that it was twice denied interviews with Edwards’ because it refused to omit the name of Edwards’ mistress from its articles about Elizabeth and her book. The article quotes Michael Oreskes, the AP’s vice president and senior managing editor who said simply, “We don’t let other people edit our wire.”

ABC financial correspondent Bianna Golodryga joined the Morning Media Menu today to talk about covering the financial crisis and the differences between working for network and cable news.

RADIO

In memoriam, from NYT: Robert R. Pauley, a former president of the ABC Radio network who championed radio at a time when television was replacing it as a dominant medium, died on May 2. When Pauley became the president of the network in 1961, he reinvigorated it, in part by emphasizing live events, especially sports.

ONLINE

NYT: Craigslist will close its erotic services category, which critics have said is a forum that fosters prostitution and other illegal activities. To replace it, the company has created a category called adult services, in which postings will be reviewed by employees.

NEWS NOTES

Reuters: North Korea said it would put two U.S. journalists it arrested in March on trial on June 4, ratcheting up tension with Washington. Analysts said the reclusive North sees the two reporters as bargaining chips to try to win concessions.

Time Mag asks, Dick Cheney: Why So Chatty All of a Sudden?

There was some confusion at Columbia University over whether Attorney General Eric Holder‘s Graduate School of Journalism commencement speech on May 19th would be open or closed to the press. Page Six caught up with a rep from the school- “There is nothing at all we want to hide.”

AWARDS

UCLA’s Anderson School of Management announced the finalists for its 2009 Gerald Loeb Awards for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism. WSJ and NYT had the most finalists, with seven each across multiple categories. Bloomberg, “60 Minutes” and CBS were also recognized with a handful of nominations each, while now defunct magazine Portfolio received three nods. FishbowlNY has the complete list of awards here.
