The Hammer, Tom DeLay, to Write and Talk for TWT

Tom DeLay, the powerful former Majority Leader and reality TV star, will contribute a weekly column to The Washington Times and also serve as an on-air personality for TWT‘s new radio venture. From the press release announcing the hire:

Starting this week, DeLay will appear on a weekly on-demand radio show with Andy Parks, who separately hosts “Live from The Washington Times” on WRC 1260 AM on weekdays. DeLay’s 30-minute program will be streamed on the Kaliki-based, on-demand radio network that was recently established in partnership with the Times.

DeLay will elaborate the themes he develops on air into a weekly column.

DeLay, of course, was the all-powerful majority leader of the Republican caucus in the House during the Bush years, before resigning his leadership position after being indicted in a campaign finance scandal. He was convicted on charges of violating election laws, but was later acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

Andy Parks’ Radio Show Changes Stations, Slots

Salem Communications and TWT announced Tuesday that Andy Parks‘ daily radio show is moving next week to a new midday slot on WRC 1260 AM.

The show, which launched two years ago from TWT’s newsroom, will move from its current 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. slot on WTNT 730 AM to the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. slot on Salem’s flagship station in D.C. Parks said he looks forward to the new opportunities and the combination of resources of TWT and WRC 1260 will provide.

It’s not all paradise. Reluctance to continue the arrangement came from TNT. They apparently gave TWT a great deal to air the show based on pie-in-the-sky promises of advertising revenue made by TWT, which they have come nowhere close to satisfying. A senior TWT official said, “Honestly, ad revenue is basically nonexistent for that show.”

Oh the Horror! ‘Gopher’ Will Soon be Gone

n54917633521_4186.jpg

Fred Grandy (a.k.a Gopher from “The Love Boat) and Andy Parks are out. FishbowlDC sources have confirmed and DCRTV is reporting that WMAL’s (630 AM) duo has been fired. Grandy is a former Republican member of Congress.

It won’t happen immediately — their end date is still up in the air.
The news has been circulating at the station all day long. Word has it that corporate-wide cuts of the most expensive employees are necessary to save money.

Station manager Paul Duckworth did not return a phone request for comment at FBDC press time.
