Dal’s Swinging Book Party

Dal LaMagna having a swinging good time at Comet Ping Pong.

Last night’s book party for Dal LaMagna (a.k.a. Tweezerman) was something to see. As shown above, there’s Dal swinging from a light fixture at Comet Ping Pong. The book is Raising Eyebrows, A Failed Entrepreneur Finally Gets it Right. “I can’t believe what a cross section of friends I have,” Dal told the crowd while standing atop a chair. “It’s quite remarkable.”

Remarkable indeed. Take a lesson Michaele and Tareq. No fete is complete without party crashers. And this one had crashers of the leopard and zebra variety. It wasn’t even pre-Halloween weirdness. They work at National Geographic (he works in editorial as a coordinator; she’s an intern. They say it’s consensual.)

The animal couple, Willie Schubert and Laura Newcomer, are partaking in a social experiment that will debut Monday on a blog detailing their travails. The point is simple (well, sort of). They don skin tight animal onesies and go out amidst the rest of the human population and see what happens. They go to museums, liquor stores, on the Metro – and apparently to book parties to which they haven’t been invited. “You wear a suit like this and you make your way into the party,” Schubert says, explaining that reaction to them has been largely positive. “People hand me their children.” (Security guards, however, bristle. One in the Metro ordered them to remove their hoods.) Coincidentally, Newcomer admitted to owning LaMagna’s famous tweezers.

Spotted in the crowd imbibing and eating delectable pizza: NJ‘s Matt Cooper, FishbowlDC and QGA’s Matt Dornic (among the hosts), Juleanna Glover (lobbyist and fellow host), Daily Caller Spokeswoman Becca Glover, FD’s Mary Kathryn Covert, Media Consultant Anne Schroeder Mullins, Wahington Life’s Kevin Chaffee and John Arundel, CNN’s Edie Emery, TIME‘s Jay Newton-Small, Politico‘s Patrick Gavin, Michael Steel, press sec to House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), Host Committee member Glenn Ballard, Washington Life photog Kyle Samperton, American Morning News radio host Amy Holmes, CBS’s Christine Delargy, Tim Burger (former Time scribe), Heather Podesta, a lobbyist, and Code Pink Founder Medea Benjamin.

Daily Caller Scribe Spends Evening on Shrooms

Chewing gum was an absolute must for Mike Riggs last Thursday night.

The reason? He was shrooming. As he explained it, his breath smelled like “cow sh*t” and he prefers to mask it. But admitting his drug use? No problem. The Daily Caller staff writer and Washington City Paper contributor tweeted about it and discussed it with us at length.

Rigg’s original message on Twitter: “My brother is much younger than me, his girl is much older than me, this band is awesome, these lights are pretty…and I am on drugs.”

Riggs shared vivid memories of the psychedelic evening with FishbowlDC…

> Update: From Daily Caller Spokeswoman Becca Glover Watkins: “The Daily Caller will not enact nanny state policies. Our staff can act as they like out of the office.”

Journos Get Jacked

ABC’s Rick Klein, Daily Caller’s Alex Pappas and Becca Glover, CBSNews.com’s Brian Montopoli, Kenny Day of MainJustice, Chris Bodenner from The Atlantic, “J.Do” Janet Donovan, Christine Delargy of CBS, National Journal’s Matt Cooper, Liz Glover and Politico’s Shira Toeplitz were a few of the media types spotted downing whiskey with the Tennessee congressional delegation at the home of Juleanna Glover last night.  Complete with a curbside bar, statues and swizzles sticks in the shape of Jack Daniels, valet parking and plenty of swag, Glover’s Kalorama manse was transformed into headquarters for the “Back Jack” campaign, the company’s push to make Jack Daniels’ birthday a national holiday.   We’re not sure if the campaign will be a success but it certainly succeeded in getting us drunk.

The Daily Caller or Hedonism III? You Decide

Daily Caller 2.jpg

At The Daily Caller, life is loose.

And actions do speak louder than words. On Wednesday night editorial staff and friends of The Daily Caller partied it up with their brand new Keg-O-rater sponsored by Pilsner Urquell. The office has a coffee machine, too. But as Spokeswoman Becca Glover put it, “We don’t have rules. Tucker is 100 percent about freedom. If you can drink and do your job, that’s your decision. It’s all about freedom.”

Being responsible is a plus, but it isn’t mandatory.

What some may not know is this isn’t the first time The Daily Caller has employed unorthodox hedonism when it comes to their reporters. Back at their launch party held at the home of lobbyist Juleanna Glover, party organizers purchased six cartons of Marlboro Reds and by the night’s end, partygoers and DC staff had smoked through all the cartons.

As first reported by Politico, Editor-in-Chief Tucker Carlson was a no-show to the party. He was tending to journalism business – he was in Manhattan to appear on FNC’s “Hannity” Wednesday night and on ABC’s GMA the following morning. Publisher Neil Patel was on hand. So were a slew of Daily Caller reporters, such as Alex Pappas, Jonathan Strong (and his wife, Anna Beth), Chris Moody, Caroline May, and Deputy Editor Jamie Weinstein with his girlfriend, Lonnie. Daily Caller’s V.P. of Sales Alex Treadway was there and in charge of dealing with pouring beer and dealing with the Keg-O-rater (not a hard job, but an important one). Others in attendance included Politico’s Kiki Ryan and Politico Click’s newest hires Karin Tanabe and Natasha Lennard. Fox News booker Lauren Torlone was there. So were The Weekly Standard‘s Mike McCormack and Mary Katherine Ham.

Some building party moochers (they claimed they were verbally invited to the party – and okay, we believe them) were Gordon Zweig, Jose Biaou and Eric Hynek. They all work at a commercial real estate firm and were enjoying the beer.

A slightly amusing moment occurred when…

Daily Caller to Celebrate New Keg-o-rater

envelope.jpeg

The Daily Caller plans to break in a new office Keg-o-rater next Wednesday evening with an invite-only party. Editor-in-Chief Tucker Carlson is a well-known non-drinker, but it doesn’t mean his employees follow suit. Earlier in the year employees were spotted enjoying celebratory shots at their party at Cafe Milano. And at a January launch party at lobbyist Juleanna Glover’s home, organizers made sure to save special scotch for VF‘s Christopher Hitchens.

Spokeswoman Becca Glover remarked to FishbowlDC, “We’re beyond excited about the new Keg-o-rator, and especially the beer that goes inside, so we wanted to share our enthusiasm with a few of our friends!”

A Good Night to be on the Guest List

Last night, movers and shakers of all ages gathered at the Washington Club in Dupont Circle to toast Washington Life’s annual “Young and the Guest List.”

From the swanky digs and the guests’ stylish threads to the truly superb swag bags (co-sponsored by WL and Moki Media), the event’s “Return to Glamor” theme shined throughout the evening.

In addition to three generations of FishbowlDC – CBS’ Christine Delargy, Politico’s Patrick Gavin, Washingtonian’s Garrett Graff and me, luminaries from every facet of Washington attended the fab fete.

We spotted Top Chef Spike Mendelsohn chatting with White House Chef Sam Kass as well as reality stars Krista Johnson, Katherine Kennedy and Andy Baldwin. The Washington press corps was well-represented by folks such as Tammy Haddad, Angie Goff, Pamela Brown, Politico’s Jonathan Martin and Kiki Ryan, Examiner’s Nikki Schwab, CBS News’ Kaylee Hartung, Daily Caller’s Becca Glover, Amy Holmes, Makeda Sackey-Saggau, The Hill’s Jared Allen, Roll Call’s Jackie Kucinich and UrbanDaddy’s Jeff Dufour with wife, Jayne Sandman.

We also caught up with MTP producer Betsy Fischer (just turned 40) who joked that her date, Politico’s Jonathan Martin, “better make the list next year so [she] could still go to the party.”

UrbanDaddy’s Pimp Party

urbantoplessresized.jpgSugar daddies, baby daddies, cool daddies and big daddies all feted the official launch of UrbanDaddy DC at the W Hotel last night. Snowed out on Thursday evening, last night was “take two” for the schwanky shindig and a much needed break from Blizzard-palooza 2010.

Celebrating with Washington editor Jeff Dufour were a roster of over-the-top entertainers like a rockin’ deejay, bad-ass electric violinist, topless (body painted) models, dancers and notable guests such as WaPo’s Amy Argetsinger, WBJ’s Jen Nycz-Conner, Politics Daily’s Emily Miller, Matt Cooper, Washington Kastles owner Mark Ein, Winston Lord, Daily Caller’s Becca Glover, Victoria Michael, Project Beltway’s Rachel Cothran, Daily Caller’s Moira Bagley, Examiner’s Nikki Schwab, MTP’s Betsy Fischer, Politico’s Jonathan Martin, White House heartthrob Jon Favreau, TWT’s John McCaslin, Amy Holmes, Elizabeth Thorp, Equinox restaurant owners Todd and Ellen Gray, The Hill’s Christina Wilkie and the party’s planners – Barbara Martin and Jayne Sandman Dufour of Fingerprint DC.

Despite a heinous hangover, I can vouch that a good time was had by all – especially the ladies of Qorvis who dominated the dance floor.
