Stephen Colbert Declares Bowe Bergdhal Safe, Unless He Needs the VA

Screen Shot 2014-06-06 at 13.32.30Typical of major headlines, they usually end up as fodder on the late night comedy circuit. And the story of President Obama’s decision to swap five Guantanamo detainees for the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl found its way there this week.

From Colbert: “Afghan veteran Bowe Bergdhal is safe, unless he needs the VA health system anytime soon.” Also, speaking of Obama’s decision to release the five detainees, Colbert said, “He can’t release these guys. We were this close to charging them with something.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper to Interview Bergdhal’s Squad Leader on Today’s ‘The Lead’

Screen Shot 2014-06-04 at 15.06.47Obama’s decision to swap five Guantanamo detainees for the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has lead headlines inside and outside the Beltway this week. And today, on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” Bergdahl’s squad leader, Staff Sgt. Justin Gerleve, will speak on television for the first time.

On yesterday’s program, Tapper spoke with Bergdahl’s team leader, former Army Sgt. Evan Buetow, who said, ”Bergdahl is a deserter, and he’s not a hero…He needs to answer for what he did.”
