Tapper Block Watch

The standout Twitter writers all have M.O.’s. BigGov’s Andrew Brietbart prints the seething comments people make about him – the more filthy the better. Author Buzz Bissinger cusses and writes raunchy. And part of ABC White House correspondent Jake Tapper’s charm is to block and threaten to block those who offend him. He’s sincere about it and merciless. More often than not, he blocks those who either a) spam him or b) insult a colleague.

Typically he gives a final warning before he blocks. And his following doesn’t suffer for it. He holds steady in the 74,000 range.

A recent example:

FOLLOWER: Douglas J. Turnbull I would prefer a @glennbeck interview then a KISS YOUR BUTT Diane interview on Obamvision @jaketapper

TAPPER’s REPLY: @TurnbullD53 Diane is awesome. Dissing her here is not welcome and will get you blocked. Thanks.

Should Weingarten Be Advising Journalists?

sheep off cliff.jpg

No doubt there’s much to be learned from WaPo‘s unconventional columnist and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Gene Weingarten. But an advisor of the craft? Could prove to be troublesome.

In recent weeks we’ve seen him use the p-word (that’d be p—y) when tweeting with and about author Buzz Bissinger . Weingarten was trying to show him up, bait him, imitate his raunchy style and acquire more Twitter followers.

Not that these aren’t admirable missions – they are, of course. But in this upcoming recent tweet, he appears to go overboard (as a potential teacher, that is) as he warns writers on the pitfalls of using one phrase over another:

“geneweingarten: URGENT!!! Writers, use caution: There is a big difference between “He came on to her” and “He came onto her.”
