JOE SCARBOROUGH CLOTHES TWIN?: “Our own Sam Stein is causing a lot of controversy with this shirt. What are your thoughts?” — HuffPost Media.

Are we still talking about stuffing?

“Hate to complain, but that jucy lucy released a mere trickle of gooey dairy. I prefer to tap into geysers of cultured richness #stuffingsnob” — Roll Call HOH writer Warren Rojas.

Someone’s future job?

“Someone should go pro and write nothing but ‘Why I left journalism’ essays for a living.” — Politico‘s Burgess Everett.

Anti-right-wing media observer

“In the right wing media, the incentive for saying amazingly stupid/mean things is as strong as it ever was.” — Media Matters fellow Oliver Willis.

Speaking of the right wing media…

Media Research Center’s Tim Graham writes, “Pro-lifers shouldn’t confuse abortion w/ slavery. Slaves were allowed to live.” To which WaPo‘s Gene Weingarten says, “LOVE this kinda talk from the right!”

“OMG. A man with a laptop wearing sunglasses doing one armed bicep curls.” — CNN’s Carol Costello.

CNN Shutting Down Martin’s ‘Funk’ in Final Days?

The TV world can be so cold. When you’re out, you’re out. And sometimes sooner than you might expect.

There are 17 days left on Roland Martin‘s CNN contract. But the powers that be appear to be shutting it down early. With his contract ending April 6, some producers have been informed not to book him, FishbowlDC has learned. We knew something was awry when we noticed Martin hadn’t tweeted his usual #bringthefunk alert on Twitter that he’d be appearing on Erin Burnette’s “Out Front,” which he hasn’t done in a month. On Wednesday he tweeted that he did Canadian TV. The Canadians can find time to bring Martin’s funk, but not CNN?

Let’s get this straight. That semi-usual appearance he had on Thursdays during Carol Costello‘s slot? Gone. It’s been three weeks since he appeared on her program and months since he appeared on “The Situation Room.” He was also non-existent during CNN Inauguration coverage in January. A final appearance on his close friend, Soledad O’Brien‘s program, which ends next week? That appears to be a dead end proposition, too.

Martin’s fierce Twittering following is not pleased. “I’m certainly going to miss you on CNN,” wrote Pasadena, Calif. resident Carolee Reed. “I cant believe that the two people who always kept it real are leaving.” (Person number two being O’Brien, she explains.) Ebony Shamberger, a UNC J-School student, was dumfounded. “Leaving CNN on April 6 — what?” she wrote in response to Reed.

Martin isn’t the only one being given the shaft. continued…

CNN’s Costello to Atlanta

Having just revamped their mornings with Soledad O’Brien and “Starting Point”, CNN is now adding Washington-based Carol Costello to their morning lineup, FishbowlDC has learned. Costello will move from DC to Atlanta to begin anchoring CNN Newsroom from 9-11am.

Kyra Phillips will move to 11am, followed by Suzanne Malveaux from noon to 2pm. The changes are taking place as Randi Kaye, who was filling in temporarily on CNN Newsroom, becomes the permanent anchor for CNN Weekend mornings. Kaye will also do investigative reporting for AC 360 weeknights.

She should be on your poll list.
NEWSPAPERS

Business Week reports, “This could go down as the year the newspaper broke—the year that the melting icebergs finally fragmented; the year that the old ways were definitively unmasked as unsustainable amid steepening revenue declines and a steady procession of buyouts and layoffs. The story is substantially different for Pearson’s London-based Financial Times. Like other major British upmarket newspapers, it winced its way through staggering losses earlier this decade, losing $60 million-plus in 2003 and more than $17 million in 2004. Unlike others, it has staged a remarkable turnaround.”

Portfolio’s Kevin Maney writes, “I just want to point out that from my particular point of view, the Pulitzers seem completely disconnected from what works with readers in journalism. I was at USA Today for 22 years. We didn’t ‘chase’ Pulitzers, but we certainly desired them. The paper nominated my columns a few times. It nominated exceptional pieces by very talented colleagues many, many times. The journalism establishment judging the prizes never gave USA Today the nod to win.”

Pew Weekly News Interest Index shows, “With the presidential campaign in something of a lull, public interest in campaign news has declined. Last week, 33% of the public paid very close attention to campaign news, down from 44% in mid-February. Public interest in the campaign, which had consistently surpassed attentiveness to previous presidential contests, is now comparable to the level measured in April 2004″

Reuters reports, “Shareholders should withhold their votes for three nominees to the New York Times Co board, a key shareholder services group said on Thursday. Shareholders should vote withheld for current board members David Liddle, Ellen Marram and Thomas Middelhoff, RiskMetrics’s Institutional Shareholder Services unit said in a report released on Thursday and written on April 9.”

A NBC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research data, ‘Meet the Press with Tim Russert” was the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the week ending Sunday, April 6, 2008 in all categories. On Sunday, the Russert-moderated program was No. 1, averaging 3.478 million total viewers”

An ABC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research for Sunday, April 6, 2008, ABC News’ ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos’ outperformed CBS’ ‘Face the Nation’ among Total Viewers.

A reader asks, “RE: Radio-TV dinner. ‘CNN personalities Gloria Borger, Ed Henry, Dana Bash, Jessica Yellin and Carol Costello are expected to attend.’ When did reporters become ‘personalities’?”

And another curious reader asks, “How in the hell are all these people going to Wednesday’s dinner on the same night as the Dem Pa. debate?”

C-SPAN’s signature morning program, Washington Journal, will be LIVE from Pennsylvania each morning at 8:30 am ET. Washington Journal will originate from C-SPAN’s Campaign 2008 Bus, which will be traveling the state meeting voters and exploring local opinions on national issues”

Online as well as on CNN/U.S., CNN International, CNN en Español, CNN Radio and Headline News, CNN will report on the pope’s address to the United Nations, his meeting with President George W.
