Monday evening on Twitter was hard to handle. With the BCS National Championship Game, the death of Richard Ben Cramer and the premier of ABC’s “The Bachelor”, we were hit with randomness from all angles. When you think you’re ready for anything, you get a tweet that totally throws you off your game and has you asking, “WTF?!?!”

That’s exactly what happened late Monday evening when Catherine Andrews, Director of Digital Content at Home Front Communications and former Editorial Director at Washingtonian, sent out a tweet that shook us to the core.

Mathis to Washingtonian, Wescott to Politico

It’s the new in thing to announce job changes on Twitter.

Earlier today Washingtonian Editor Garrett Graff announced the news that Sommer Mathis, formerly of the website formerly known as TBD, is moving over to Washingtonian. In other former TBD news, Jay Wescott, staff photographer, announced his own news that he’s going to work for Politico.

Graff tweeted earlier today: “I’m excited to say @sommermathis will be joining @washingtonian, the 2nd @DCist editor we’ve had lead our site (1st was @candrews).” (He was referring to Catherine Andrews, who is now Senior Digital Media Manager at Home Front Communications.)

Mathis is going to take the weekend to unwind. “And now, off for a celebratory long weekend at a fancy spa! See you next week when I’ll be 1000% more relaxed,” she wrote some four hours ago on Twitter.

Hottest Media Types: Friday Morning

We ran into a bunch of FishbowlDC hotties (Hulse, Verdugo, Kucinich, Pietras, Friere, Stanton, etc.) at last night’s DCI Group party and, boy, were their fingers tired. Why? From Pew’s Weekly News Interest Index: “Iraq remained the top news story last week, both in terms of public interest and news coverage. Anna Nicole Smith’s death and the bizarre aftermath continued to attract a distinct yet devoted audience. In spite of the fact that most Americans think Smith’s death has been over-covered, the core audience for the story gives the press high marks for its coverage. Other top stories of the week included the 2008 presidential campaign, mounting tensions between the U.S. and Iran, conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and the rescue of three climbers from Oregon’s Mt. Hood.”

An ABC release announced that “World News with Charles Gibson” won the February sweeps among viewers and adults 25-54. This is the first across the board sweeps win for ABC since 1996.

Voice of America is hiring an executive editor.

After getting in their digs at the Washingtonian by saying “Washingtonian joins the 21st century,” DCist gives a plug for alumna Catherine Andrews and the new Washingtonian blogs, calling them “largely interesting reading.”

Washingtonian Launches “After Hours”

We’re willing to bet that there are so many blogs nowadays that only Mike Grass can keep up with them all, and even he has burned holes through the elbows of his ever-present tweed sports coat trying to keep up…

Washingtonian magazine has launched “After Hours.” Written primarily by former DCist writer (and one of the original founders) Catherine Andrews, the blog aims to “bring you the latest on what’s useful and fun in Washington–whether it’s a great show at the 9:30 Club, the best happy hour, the trendiest boutique, or the hottest place to dance the night away.”
