Citing Growth, The DC Shuffles Senior Staff

dailycaller_editThe Daily Caller announced today that it was promoting from within to fill its top editorial spots. Vince Coglianese has been promoted from Managing Editor to Executive Editor. Former Associate Editor Christopher Bedford will take over as Managing Editor, and another former Associate Editor Paul Conner will become Deputy Editor. The top editorial spot had been empty since the abrupt departure of the controversial David Martosko, who went to the Daily Mail.

There was movement on the business side too. McKenzie Vaughn was hired last May to be Director of Operations and Public Affairs. And Clark Hennessy has been promoted from Deputy Director of Audience Outreach to Director of Communications. Both Vaughn and Hennessy will be the points of contact for media booking requests.

In a press release, co-founders Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel say The DC has doubled its readership since the year before, and that the changes to senior staff “recognize the enormous talent that has driven the site to its position as a top news source.”

#MHPapology Lights Up Twitter

Outrage abounds over Melissa Harris-Perry‘s mocking of Mitt Romney’s adopted black grandson. The Twitters are by and large denouncing the MSNBC host -though she does have some defenders. Here’s what’s being tweeted about the controversy…

A Chance to Meet Michelle Fields

We could hardly contain ourselves when we got word that Next Generation.TV’s Allen West and Michelle Fields would be the stars at an upcoming happy hour. Apparently neither could The Daily Caller‘s editor and columnist Christopher Bedford, who forwarded the party notice to colleagues, adding, “Allen West happy hour on Thursday. Word is you might get to meet Michelle Fields.”

Bedford’s remark might be tongue-in-cheek since Fields was fired from The Daily Caller in late August of 2012 for a lack in production. She still has friends there, however, notably, Jamie Weinstein (wink! wink!). Fields’ focus has always been on getting herself on TV, not writing stories.

The soirée is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday in Sonoma’s private dining room on Capitol Hill.

Daily Caller Called ‘Most Unethical’ Publication After Editor Sends ‘Dick Pic’

Media people receive vast amounts of emails everyday. Many are useless story pitches and press releases from undiscriminating publicists. Daily Caller Associate Editor Christopher Bedford is the type to sometimes reply to those emails, even if it’s just to send “a Dick pic.”

The Raw Story reported Monday on what has become a seriously entertaining, if undoubtedly immature, conflict between The DC and The Secular Coalition for America, a pro-atheist non-profit based in Washington. When Bedford has received past emails from SCA’s spokeswoman Lauren Anderson Youngblood, he has responded to them with smart-ass comments, such as “It’s nice out. Take a day off from hating God, kids and babies” and “Here’s a Dick pic,” with a photo of former Vice President Dick Cheney attached.

“Imagine this,” Beford told FishbowlDC, “A conservative columnist is just trying to cut out of town early on a Friday afternoon to enjoy the sunshine and he receives an unsolicited pro-abortion email touting science as god. Skipping over thinking a sunny Friday afternoon is a good time to send a press release, one single ounce of research on her end (beyond fishing my email out of somewhere) would have shown that I’m completely uninterested in their dumbass opinions.”

SCA responded to Bedford’s emails by…

Politico Scribe’s Writing Chops Under Assault Again

David Rogers, a seasoned reporter who covers Congress at Politico, can’t catch a break from the right or left, it seems.

In late October, The Daily Caller’s Christopher Bedford wrote a piece attacking a story by Rogers, calling it “garbage.” Today, Jamison Foser‘s (formerly with Media Matters) turn to take a swing.

“Awful Politico paragraph is awful,” Foser tweeted. Accompanying the tweet was a screen shot of a graf from a story by Rogers published last night. The story is headlined “Getting past grudges to fiscal cliff deal.”

The graf in question… Read more

Daily Caller Almost Makes Point While Trolling Politico

The latest in a long history of The Daily Caller‘s war with Politico was published last night in a post headlined: “The top five reasons Politico is garbage, in their own words.”

Every now and again The Daily Caller likes to remind its readers that they don’t like Politico, either by calling it a “liberal” publication or by crunching their web traffic in an unfavorable light. (Side note: Politico generally outperforms DC in traffic, according to Compete.com, a web analytics company)

In DC‘s latest, Christopher Bedford examined one story — in fact, one page of a story — by seasoned (as in ancient) congressional reporter David Rogers to conclude that Politico is “garbage.” Roger’s story, headlined “Bob Kerrey’s last stand to fix Washington,” is a nearly two-week-old five-page piece on a Senate race in Nebraska between Republican Deb Fischer and Democrat Bob Kerrey.

Rogers told FishbowlDC in an email he believes it’s company policy not to comment on attacks directed at Politico.

The five parts Bedford looks at… Read more
