Daniel Halper Outlines Defensive Tactics Preceding Clinton, Inc.’s Publication

Clinton, Inc.On the publication date of Daniel Halper‘s Clinton, Inc., the author penned a piece for POLITICO Magazine on what’s happened and can be expected for he and others who white “a tough book on the Clinton family.” Ten days prior, Halper’s latest was leaked to the press, as a combined 317-page PDF distributed to more than 100 reporters by a mysterious “Robert Josef Wright.

“Some prominent media personalities with experience covering the Clintons in the 1990s told me that their team would have no problem with, say, copying every page of someone’s manuscript, sending it out to reporters ahead of publication, and then depicting it as a right-wing smear job. Funny thing, that exact thing happened with my book, as POLITICO noted,” Halper writes in the piece.

From blacklisting media who give airtime to Clinton enemies to efforts to turn Halper into a “kook or right-wing hit man,” The Weekly Standard’s online editor outlines four tactics used by the ‘Clinton PR machine’ against anyone who’s agenda doesn’t coincide with that of the Clintons.

10 Days Out, Clinton, Inc. by Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper Leaked to Press

Clinton, Inc.Saturday night, a second critical book on the Clintons following the release of Hillary Clinton’s Hard Choices was leaked to press 10 days ahead of its publishing date.

Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine, written by the Weekly Standard’s Online Editor Daniel Halper, was distributed to more than 100 reporters by the mysterious “Robert Josef Wright” as a combined 317-page PDF.

The Daily Beast’s Lloyd Grove says of the former President and potential 2016 Democratic Presidential candidate, as portrayed in the book, “Perhaps surprisingly, it’s Bill Clinton who emerges as selfish and coldly calculating in the portrait drawn by Halper’s reporting, and Hillary who comes off as warm and caring, albeit charmingly transactional for political gain, particularly with her Republican colleagues in the Senate.” Read more

Jilted Conservatives Host Party Ahead of CPAC

When you feel like you’ve been spurned by the largest annual gathering of conservatives, host your own. That’s what Townhall and Breitbart NewsLisa De Pasquale, along with a few other former organizers of the Conservative Political Action Conference, did for the second year in a row Monday night.

De Pasquale, a board member of the gay conservative group GOProud and director of CPAC from 2006-2011, doesn’t attend the conference anymore; not after other sponsors complained about GOProud’s official involvement in 2010 and 2011. She was dismissed by CPAC organizers. Instead, she convenes a happy hour in Washington for friends coming to town for CPAC. This year, she called it “Don’t Say C—!” It was hosted at PJ Clarke’s Sidecar bar.

Former assistants to De Pasquale help host the event and she says they also will not be going to CPAC. In attendance at the happy hour was GOProud’s Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia, who told FishbowlDC that he also won’t be attending CPAC.

De Pasquale said she holds a lot of “grudges” with current CPAC organizers but… Read more

Conservative Pubs: WATCH YOUR BACKS!

Conservative news outlets around Washington may want to chain their top reporters down to their desks these days, as Breitbart.com is moving in on their territory. Reporters from a number of publications such as The Daily Caller and The Washington Times are receiving enticing offers, with some scribes seeing their salaries increased by as much as $25k with yearly bonuses of $5k. Breitbart.com will provide full benefits starting in February. Until then, they’re offering a reimbursement plan.

But there’s a catch. Sources tell FishbowlDC the would-be hires are being asked to sign four-year contracts. To his credit, Steve Bannon, who is heading up the hiring process in Washington, is succeeding despite rubbing some the wrong way. Some who have dealt with him say he tells you what he needs to and skimps on the truth. So far, however, he has snagged The Daily Caller‘s ever controversial Matthew Boyle and over the weekend TWT’s Kerry Picket announced on Twitter that she is going to work for Breitbart.com as an investigative reporter.

Reporters around town being wooed for Breitbart.com include: Katie Pavlich of Townhall, Lachlan Markay of Heritage, Charlie Spiering of the Washington Examiner, Caroline May of The Daily Caller and Daniel Halper at The Weekly Standard.

Some have described a cultish feel to the process, with phrases such as “This is the way Andrew would have wanted it” being bandied about in conversation. But some in conservative media circles aren’t taking any of this all that well. “I predict this cast of misfits once fully assembled are now going to walk around events in DC slinging their cocks around like they’re the new cool kids,” said one scribe. And another: “They look like a bunch of a folk that were rejected from working at BuzzFeed, who was like, ‘Can they post cat pics?’ And then said, ‘nevermind’ to hiring them.”

Picket, a well-known conservative reporter who wrote TWT‘s The Water Cooler blog, is well regarded within Washington’s media… Read more
