Politico reports that CNN’s David Gergen, WaPo‘s Chris Cillizza, Newsweek‘s Jon Meacham and Howard Fineman, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution‘s Cynthia Tucker, Politico‘s Mike Allen, NPR/Fox’s Mara Liasson, TPM‘s Josh Marshall and NYT‘s David Brooks, Andy Rosenthal, and Gail Collins joined the President, David Axelrod, Anita Dunn, Bill Burton and Robert Gibbs for an off-the-record lunch today.

Lunch apparently lasted two hours and green salad, halibut and pear tart were served.

National Journal published the results of its most recent poll that asked a panel of Congressional and Political Insiders to rank, one-through-five, those columnists, bloggers, and television or radio commentators who most help to shape their own opinion or worldview.

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman received more points than anyone else, with support from both Democrats and Republicans.

• We told you earlier today about one HuffPost columnist’s campaign for Joe Scarborough in 2012. The “Morning Joe” anchor confirmed on MSNBC this morning that he would not running for president, joking “I am being drafted by the Huffington Post, which is going to help me a hell of a lot in those early, conservative Republican states.”

“First Draft of History” Event Announced

Invitations for the “First Draft of History,” a Newseum event sponsored by The Atlantic and the Aspen Institute are being extended today. The invite-only, all on-the-record event will include interviews and panel discussions with folks like Larry Summers, Janet Napolitano, Michael Bloomberg, David Petraeus, Lindsey Graham and Eric Schmitt.

The October 1-2 event will also feature media heavy hitters as interviewers. Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, Dan Rather, David Gregory, Chris Matthews, Maria Bartiromo, Chuck Todd, Chris Wallace and Jim Lehrer will represent the broadcast side.
