CQ Changes

From the CQ internal email, obtained by FishbowlDC:

As I’m sure many of you have noticed, Benton Ives has returned to CQ. He will cover economics and finance issues for Jodi Schneider’s team. Benton has spent the last year-plus at Dow Jones Newswires, primarily covering the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve Board. In his earlier incarnation at CQ he was a reporter for CQ Homeland Security and a member of the Committee Votes team. Benton also was an assistant editor of the CQ Researcher. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia. Today is his first day back so please welcome him home. Edward Epstein, whose addition to the Inside Congress team as a leadership reporter was announced earlier, also started today. On the other side of the ledger, I am very sorry to announce that Jeff Tollefson is leaving CQ to join the Washington bureau of Nature magazine. At Nature, Jeff will cover the scientific and policy aspects of national energy, climate change and nuclear policy. Jeff used his significant expertise on environmental and energy issues to great advantage for CQ readers and will be missed. His last day is Sept. 7. As many of you know, Joelle Tessler also announced her decision to leave CQ to spend more time with her newborn son and was given a warm send off by Paul Hendrie and his team on her last day last week. We wish her well.

Epstein to CQ: The Announcement

(earlier on FishbowlDC)

From CQ’s internal email:

I am very pleased to announce that Edward Epstein, a veteran of the San Francisco Chronicle’s Washington Bureau, will join Congressional Quarterly as a reporter covering congressional leadership as part of the Inside Congress team.

Ed brings to his new position 23 years of experience as a reporter and editor for the Chronicle. He has had more than 4,800 bylines since 1985 and has earned a well-deserved reputation as a sharp and swift writer and a considerate team player. He’s been the go-to writer for stories on the Bay Area’s congressional delegation and issues as diverse as transportation, the Iraq war, the 2001 anti-terrorism law and western water policy. He has closely covered House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has represented the Bay Area since 1987. Before joining the Washington Bureau, Ed reported from San Francisco’s City Hall for five years. He has covered higher education, state politics and once wrote a column on foreign policy.

For four years beginning in 1980, he was a reporter and editor at his hometown paper, The Chicago Sun-Times. Earlier, he spent four years at the Asian Wall Street Journal right after that paper began publication in the fall 1976.

Ed is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana.

Please welcome him on his first day, August 27.
