The Atlantic Names Bill Mulvihill Associate Publisher

The Atlantic today named Vanity Fair’s national advertising director Bill Mulvihill its next associate publisher. The last person in the role was Hayley Romer who currently serves as Atlantic publisher and VP.

In that role, he’ll lead its global sales team and advertising across platforms.

“The Atlantic is a brand I’ve long admired, and joining the team feels like a dream career move,” said Mulvihill in the announcement. “It has evolved into a multi-platform category leader that isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo and is leading the way in “best in class” content and brand marketing programs.”

Prior to joining VF, Mulvihill served as the East Coast advertising director for Entertainment Weekly, and has been in sales for The Week, Cookie magazine, and The Chicago Tribune.

In July, The Atlantic announced record growth for newsstand sales and website traffic.

Bradley Installs ‘Next Generation of Leadership” at The Atlantic

Atlantic Media Chairman and CEO David Bradley announced today that James Bennet and Bob Cohn have been named Co-Presidents of The Atlantic.

Bennet will retain his current title of Editor-in-Chief while Cohn will take on the title of COO as well as co-president. He will transition from digital editor to preside over all business operations, including AtlanticLIVE and The Wire.

Bradley also announced that Kevin Delaney and Jay Lauf would become Co-President’s of Quartz, Atlantic’s digital business publication. They are and will continue to serve as Editor-in-Chief and Publisher respectively.

“With these promotions, we are all but complete in installing a next generation of leadership at Atlantic Media,” Bradley said.

Earlier this month, he appointed yet another pair of co-presidents during a round of promotions at National Journal Group. NJ Editor-in-Chief Tim Grieve and Publisher Poppy MacDonald added Co-President to their existing titles, while Tim Hartman was promoted to CEO.

Romer joined the company in May of last year as Associate Publisher. M. Scott Havens, President of The Atlantic, announced the news today.

In her past…According to a release, prior to joining The Atlantic, Romer spent five years at the Condé Nast Media Group, most recently as Executive Director of Corporate Sales. In that role, she managed an integrated team on accounts ranging from finance to luxury to technology across titles such as The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and Wired. Before joining Condé Nast in 2007, Romer managed the luxury account list at Forbes Media. She began her career in publishing at American Heritage magazine.

The Atlantic Names Associate Publisher

Jay Lauf, Vice President and Publisher of The Atlantic, announced today that Hayley Romer has been named Associate Publisher of The Atlantic. Working closely with Lauf and overseeing the national sales team, Romer will help lead advertising efforts for the brand across all its platforms.
