Cronut™ Creator Dominique Ansel Talks Creation of Epic Dessert During Lunch at The Jefferson

photo1Several dozen Washingtonians gathered at The Jefferson Hotel Friday afternoon for lunch with Dominique Ansel, the mastermind behind the Cronut™ and author of the recently released book Dominique Ansel: The Secret Recipes.

Guests enjoyed a four course lunch, which opened on the sweet side with Dominique’s Kouign Amanns (think a sweet croissant) and were offered remarks by Ansel who spoke about the rise of the Cronut™ at his staple New York bakery and answered questions from attendees.

NBC 4 anchor Eun Yang admitted during the Q&A to being one of the many who have lined up to outside Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York where the breakfast pastry was first served. Chef Ansel also admitted that even his closest family and friends must wait in line.

Earlier in the day, Ansel toured and met with the fellows and staff of Dog Tag Bakery in Alexandria, Va., offering tips on how to be an entrepreneur and inventor.

National Journal To Convene ‘The Day After’

Day After ConferenceJust hours after televisions turn off and computers shut down in Washington and across the country, National Journal will convene for “The Day After” midterms conference bright and early at 8:30 am on Wednesday, November 5th.

The four part event will feature three panels and a concluding conversation with National Journal political analyst and editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report Charlie Cook.

The morning will feature panels led by NJ senior political columnist and editorial director Ron Fournier, Washington editor Ben Pershing, and senior writer Michelle Cottle, to include former Senators Bob Bennett and Olympia Snowe; former Representatives Bud CramerMartin Frost, and Steve LaTouretteWhit Ayres, president, North Star Opinion Research; Jeffrey Forbes, founding partner, Forbes Tate; Celinda Lake, president, Lake Research Partners; Bill Pierce, SVP, APCO Worldwide; Heather Podesta, founder and president, Heather Podesta + Partners; and Ed Rogers, chairman, BGR.

Marriott Celebrates 4,000th Hotel Opening with Huge Bash for its Newest Marquis

20140610_195741Last night, Marriott International celebrated its 4,000th hotel opening at the new Marriott Marquis Washington, DC. Hundreds of guests congregated in its lower level ballroom alongside Marriott notables including Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board for Marriott, Bill Marriott, SVP of Brand Management Paul Cahill, and VP of Global Brand Management Matthew Carroll.

The reception included music by DJ Stylus, a 360* aerial dance performance by Les Oiseaux Du Paradis, and local DC muralist Aniekan Udofia, as well as sushi, oyster, dumpling, taco, and Jim Beam bourbon bars. Upon arriving, guests were given high-tech RFID bracelets, which when activated would email drink recipes and music from throughout the night.
