Reader explains “tricks” scribes use to avoid crediting others

On Friday, WaPo‘s Paul Farhi wrote a story on Politico pulling a video that featured Sen. Min. Leader Mitch McConnell‘s (R-Ky.) COS blowing them love kisses. Turns out may that be against Senate rules, as reported by Roll Call‘s Meredith Shiner. So we wrote about Farhi’s failure to adequately cite Shiner and her story.

An Anonymous reader writes in…“Farhi’s failure to credit Roll Call: He use two of the oldest tricks in the book for skating past the explicit crediting of others: Don’t mention at top, but then mention the name of the news breaking organization without crediting them but attributing some small detail to their reporting. Fig leaf covered! The second dodge is when one your “friends” (your editor) tells you, “Farhi, you got beat on something!) Like the immaculate conception, if you hear it from someone else, then it is no longer breaking news!”

After 12 years with the station, he has taken a job at Baltimore’s WBAL where he will anchor their morning show. Word leaked out a month ago, but Nehman didn’t address it on air until his farewell message today.

WBAL is owned by Hearts Broadcasting, which also owns WBAL-TV, the local NBC affiliate, so don’t be surprised to see Nehman pop up on TV from time to time.

Nehman started out at WMAL as a reporter and gradually moved into hosting.

Program Director Bill Hess and Executive Producer Heather Smith will keep the show going with guest hosts to sit in with Brian Wilson while the search for a permanent replacement persists.

The movie makes you miss the good natured Andrew Breitbart, who died suddenly of a bad heart in March. Think what you will of his politics, and his countless enemies, Breitbart made politics fun when he engaged.

The mood at the after party was upbeat, with booze flowing and most of the conversations revolving around the late subject of the film. All mentioned how he was missed. Everyone had positive, funny stories to share.

What you may not know about Smith…She has produced three top 10 nationally syndicated radio programs: The G. Gordon Liddy Show, The Laura Ingraham Show and most recently, The Lars Larson Show. She began working in radio when she was just 17 by hosting a love and relationships talk show. She also founded a radio station at her high school. She was formerly a TV booker for FNC. In college, she studied film under the co-founder of the Sundance Film Festival.
