Washington Examiner: One Promoted, One Leaving, Another Returns From India

In a simple, straightforward memo to staff late Tuesday, Washington Examiner Stephen Smith announces the news of one promoted reporter, one departing reporter and the return of another. Katy DeLuca has been promoted to Features Editor. She replaces Jacque Jo Bland, one of our favorite tweeters, who is leaving. Her Twitter account has been suspended, which we hope is just temporary. Leah Fabel (pictured at left), who took off for India in September, returns.  In a separate note from Smith to FishbowlDC, he explains, “Jacque is a West Virginian, and she’s joining Chesapeake Energy as Media Relation Specialist in Pittsburgh in order to be nearer her family. She’ll be responsible for the northern panhandle of W. Va and western PA. We hate to see her go, but we can’t argue with her reasons. She’s been a great colleague.”

Two Journalists, Both Nauseous

What are the chances?

Both The Nation‘s Editor and Publisher Katrina vanden Heuval, who boarded a crack of dawn train to D.C. this morning for a Midterm panel, and the Washington Examiner‘s Features Editor Jacque Jo Bland, shared a feeling over the weekend – one literally, one metaphorically.

That would be nausea.

Vanden Heuval got the lucky metaphorical version. “Knew some of this, but sick, nauseous reading this,” she wrote on Twitter. “Nazis Were Given ‘Safe Haven’ in U.S., Report Says.” Read report here. Bland, however, got whacked with a preposterously real evening of vomiting and car trouble.

Her tweet: “Tonight, in less than 40 minutes, I got a car towed, threw up a few times and resigned myself to failing. Again. Miserable.”

(On note of natural healing capabilities, ginger is said to ease nausea symptoms.)
