(A Sprinkling of Things we Think you Ought to Know…)

CPAC’s Saddest Panel – Now that CPAC is over, Twitter will be a LOT less interesting. I think we’ll kinda miss all the pictures of weirdos wearing “Zombie Obama” face-paint, sad Presidential mascots and Newt Gingrich. One of the sadder events that was featured at CPAC was an event called, ““Stop THIS: Threats, Harassment, Intimidation, Slander & Bullying from the Obama Administration.” Catchy, right?

On the panel was Breitbart’s Ben Shapiro, who has been getting a lot of attention lately. Unfortunately for him, all that attention doesn’t translate into attendance at CPAC. Little Green Footballs snapped this shot of the panel, which looks emptier than minibar in a CPAC hotel room.

Newsmakers Watch Out: “This Week” Starting New Fact-Check Mission

From ABC News’ Jake Tapper’s Political Punch blog:

“THIS WEEK” Joins With Politifact to Fact-Check the Newsmakers

“As you may know, we’re trying out some new things on THIS WEEK. Two weeks ago we started live-tweeting of the show (which will next happen at 10 am ET this Sunday).

This week we’ve invited Pulitzer Prize winning website PolitiFact to fact-check the newsmaker interviews featured on the program.

The idea was first proposed by NYU journalism professor Jay Rosen http://jayrosen.posterous.com/my-simple-fix-for-the-messed-up-sunday-shows and I thought it worth a try. PolitiFact editor Bill Adair, the St Petersburg Times’ Washington bureau chief, and I know each other from fact-checking forums and such (I was at the Fact Check desk during the 2004 elections) so I asked him if he’d be willing to give it a try. He was.

Obviously I aspire to fact-check newsmakers during the show itself, but in addition to that, starting this Sunday April 12, after the show, you can read Politifact’s fact checks on ABCNews.com/This Week and at Politifact.com.”

Obama’s Physical: Say No to Cigs

cigarettes_682_475870a.jpgPresident Obama’s recent physical has revealed that the President is in great health. Still, the reports from members of the White House Press Corp. and others indicate he still needs to work on “smoking cessation.”

This morning’s NYT story discusses Obama’s 30-year smoking habit. Read it here.

Read Time’s Karen Tumulty’s report here. See ABC Jake Tapper’s “Political Punch” report here.

On a different matter altogether, NBC’s Luke Russert tweets,”Does anybody else find it weird that people are so interested in Mr. Obama’s colon health?”

And New York Daily News’s Ken Bazinet: “Not a big surprise jock POTUS is declared to be in ‘excellent health.’ He’s got to avoid the fries, but work hard/play hard is lesson here.”

Journos Gear Up for Rahm’s Repentance

rahm-emanuel-fist.jpgAfter calling liberal activists “f–king retarded”, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel meets this afternoon with Special Olympics Chairman and CEO Timothy Shriver and four other advocates of the disabled community at 2 p.m.

Emanuel’s quote was reported in the WSJ last week, but was from an August meeting of liberal activists.

Read ABC News Jake Tapper’s account on it here.

MSNBC also just reported on the upcoming Emanuel meeting on “Andrea Mitchell Reports”.
