WTF du Jour: Handler’s Cap File Cover

We received in our mailbox today the latest edition of Capitol File magazine.  And all I could think was “what in the Jason Binn hell were they thinking with that cover photo of Chelsea Handler?”  The comedienne and three-time White House Correspondents Dinner guest must have pissed off someone at Niche Media because Cap File dressed her like a late 90s Ellen DeGeneres and styled her with used hair extensions from the Dina Lohan collection.  WTF?

If this train wreckery didn’t slide through your mail slot, you can check it out online here.

WHCD: Cap File Emerges with After Party

And just when we thought MSNBC would go unchallenged in the post-dinner party competition this year, Capitol File emerges with an invitation to their 6th annual After Party.  Niche Media Chairman Jason Binn, Cap File EIC Kate Bennett and Publisher Sarah Schaffer have partnered up with The Creative Coalition and Bing for a festive fete at the Ronald Reagan Building from 10 PM – 2 AM.  The soiree is by invitation only but there’s good news for those who didn’t receive an invite: guests are permitted to bring a “plus one.” Start buttering up your invited friends now and you too could party the night away with Cap File next Saturday.

Cap File Celebrates 5 Years

The Corcoran Gallery played host to Capitol File‘s fifth anniversary fete last night.   Guarded by a gestapo of magazine interns who seemed excited to turn away would-be crashers (and those who fell victim to a clerical error *see: me), the event featured “Project Runway” host and Cap File cover boy Tim Gunn.  A sensory overload designed by Andre Wells, the soiree boasted a four-foot birthday cake, a deejay and  drive-by appetizers that made their way through the bar on a sushi-style conveyor belt.

Representing the magazine were new EIC Kate Bennett, Niche Media CEO Jason Binn and Sarah Schaffer, former EIC turned publisher.  Media-types spotted taking in the sights and sounds were WBJ‘s Jen Nycz-Conner, The Hill‘s Emily Goodin, Roll Call‘s Jackie Kucinich, Stephanie Green, Politico‘s Kiki Ryan, Janet Donovan, CBS’s Christine Delargy, FD’s Mary Kathryn Covert, Politico‘s Patrick Gavin and Project Beltway’s Rachel Cothran

Cap File Announces WHCA After-Party; Blitzer to Co-Host

The MSNBC after-party won’t win all of the glam WHCD guests by default, after all. Capitol File is once again getting in the WHCA game, announcing their post-party at the Mayflower on May 1st at 10PM. The event will be hosted by Niche Media CEO Jason Binn and Cap File EIC Sarah Schaffer along with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer and celebrity chef Bobby Flay.

The magazine will unveil their May/June issue featuring Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi at the event. You might remember that Cap File hosted their WHCA party at the Corcoran Gallery last year.

Journos Fete Kournikova and Cap File

Capitol File Magazine’s Jason Binn, John Colabelli and Sarah Schaffer feted this issue’s cover star Anna Kournikova at Oya last night. The event brought out media types such as Politico‘s Kiki Ryan, WBJ‘s Jennifer Nycz-Conner, CBS News’ Christine Delargy, CNBC’s John Harwood, Examiner‘s Tara Palmeri, CNN Political Director Sam Feist and Michelle Jaconi, new EP for CNN’s John King, USA.

Fishbowl caught up with a very dolled-up Jaconi who told us that she and King are “thrilled by the feedback and support” they received from the launch of John King, USA.

“We received dozens of flower arrangements and gift baskets on the day the show premiered – many from competitive networks,” said Jaconi.

Other guests spotted were Winston Lord, Jessica Gibson and Fingerprint DC’s Jayne Sandman and Barbara Martin.
