De Pasquale, a board member of the gay conservative group GOProud and director of CPAC from 2006-2011, doesn’t attend the conference anymore; not after other sponsors complained about GOProud’s official involvement in 2010 and 2011. She was dismissed by CPAC organizers. Instead, she convenes a happy hour in Washington for friends coming to town for CPAC. This year, she called it “Don’t Say C—!” It was hosted at PJ Clarke’s Sidecar bar.

Former assistants to De Pasquale help host the event and she says they also will not be going to CPAC. In attendance at the happy hour was GOProud’s Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia, who told FishbowlDC that he also won’t be attending CPAC.

On Saturday Hayes leaped to the defense of the gay Republican group GOProud, which was banned from participating in this year’s CPAC. Hayes had previously been secured by organizers of CPAC, the annual mega gathering for conservatives and Republicans, to speak on a discussion panel.

“My initial reaction was, ‘Of course I’ll go!’” Hayes, an outspoken liberal, said on his show Up! “As someone who attempts to convene discussions across various ideological boundaries, I have a special appreciation for CPAC’s willingness to invite someone with my politics to speak to the attendees.” He said he opted not to attend once GOProud was banned from participating as a group. “It’s not okay to ban organizations for reasons of pure bigotry,” he said.

GOProud was also banned from speaking at CPAC last year after other conservative groups boycotted the event, citing GOProud’s inclusion as the reason.

Jimmy LaSalvia, GOProud’s executive director, commended Hayes. Though CPAC organizers have invited GOProud members and supporters to attend as individuals, LaSalvia told FishbowlDC in an email that he won’t be going. Stanton is the Washington Bureau Chief for BuzzFeed and last night was the launch of the website’s new series wherein newsmakers are invited to sit before an audience and answer questions. And there’s free beer.

It’s essentially the same thing as Politico‘s Playbook Breakfast, “minus the stale bagels, plus the beer,” cracked BuzzFeed‘s Politics Editor McKay Coppins to FishbowlDC. (The site’s publicist Ashley McCollum boasts that she came up with that description.)

The first guest: Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). For roughly 45 minutes Rubio answered questions from BuzzFeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith about immigration, gay marriage and the future of the Republican Party. Of course, lengthy segments here and there were spent on why Rubio prefers Tupac over Biggie Smalls (“His lyrics are more insightful in my opinion.”) and whether he had to “think long and hard” before letting his son play recreational football. Coulter was interviewed by Human Events prior to the signing and it ran long. Thomas Winter, the paper’s editor, told FishbowlDC Coulter alerted him she was going to return to her hotel to change clothes before heading to ATR. “Having a wife… I know what it’s like when a woman says she’s going to be somewhere as soon as she can,” he said.

Some 70 people showed up at the event to have Coulter sign copies of her new book Mugged. She signed all of them before heading to the “First Friday” monthly gathering of young conservatives near Capitol Hill.

On CSPAN Friday morning, Coulter, known for attacking the news media, said “the entire mainstream media is pretending” her new book “doesn’t exist.” On her way out we asked her to name the most fair national reporter. “[Fox News'] Brit Hume,” she said without skipping a beat. When asked to name the least fair reporter, she said “Everyone on MSNBC.” How about one specific reporter? She named former Newsweek editor Jonathan Alter. “Is he considered a journalist? Probably not,” she said.

With that, Coulter exited the building, cup of wine in hand.

Alter responded to Coulter’s comments in an email to FBDC. He said she named him “because we appeared on television many times together before she was famous and she insisted on going on alone, and each time I owned her.”

Coulter must have struck a chord. Alter sent another email immediate after: “P.S: Does she even know what the word ‘fair’ means?” he said. “We know that if she does, she doesn’t consider it a compliment.  That means she must be saying something nice about me. Thanks, Ann!”

Though Vice is known for edgy, controversial content with a penchant toward debauchery, sex and drugs, don’t think TMZ – the first episode, at least, is more serious than that. The first guest of the show is the “perennial presidential candidate” and “peacenik conscience of the Democratic Party”: Rep. Dennis Kucinich (Ohio). Morretti, the host, wears a black top hat and what Glover calls a “short suit.” His attire truly is fantastic. All reporters should dress like this (for fun or for Halloween). She explains, the weather called for it.
