Wilson Center Gets New Media Manager

images-2

Adam Hudson has been hired to be media manager at the Wilson Center, a nonpartisan think tank. He’ll work alongside media relations manager Drew Sample.

In a somewhat perplexing teenage text style release, the news was announced this morning.

Did they get training from NYT‘s Jonathan Martin? Read more

Aide’s Terrible Slip of the Twitter Tongue

15740027Top White House aide Dan Pfeiffer may soon think twice about shooting the breeze on serious topics on Twitter, especially when the n-word can quickly become the b-word. When the Assistant and Senior Advisor to President Obama shot out a tweet with “bigger” in it this morning, the word came back with an “n” in place of the “b.”

The Twittersphere went nuts.

And word is getting out fast. Outlets like Politico, TWT and The Daily Caller are already publishing posts on it.

The offending tweet at 9:50 a.m. was to NYT‘s Jonathan Martin: “@jmartNYT also a much nigger factor on the right.”

Just four minutes later Pfeiffer wrote, “Obviously a horrendous typo in my previous tweet. My apologies.”

But in cases like these, the damage was done. Read more

Mark Halperin Searches for Inner Journo Children

TIME Editor-at-Large Mark Halperin is nothing if not deep. Maybe it’s his relatively new fully grown facial hair that’s making him so introspective?

Halperin’s Inner Children

We like that he included a woman on here as well as a guy who tweets like a 13-year-old girl.

TNR Grills NYT’s Jill Abramson; Editor Declares Politico ‘Evanescent’ in its Reporting

That story on NYT‘s Jill Abramson by Politico‘s Dylan Byers from April is the one that just won’t die. In it, he predicted her potential demise and wrote that a number of journalists in the newsroom didn’t like her brusque manner. “Just a year and a half into her tenure as executive editor, Abramson is already on the verge of losing the support of the newsroom,” he wrote.

Since then, NYT Washington Bureau reporters have discussed how the story actually helped rather than hurt Abramson, since so many have come to her defense since news of her potential downfall broke. The story has spurred a whole debate about gender in the newsroom — for example, while it’s perfectly newsroom charming for NYT‘s Dean Baquet to punch walls when angry, for Abramson, that might seem unseemly. Or else that brusque thing again.

When The Daily Beast reported that Abramson cried over the story, Byers tweeted it, earning him the title of “grossest” reporter by, ahem, Gawker, which adequately devoured the gross market by writing about Arianna Huffington‘s alleged pooping habits.

On Sunday the story was discussed again as NYT Public Editor Margaret Sullivan called it “unfair” and “unfortunate” and discussed what she perceived was the overuse of anonymous sources. And today, The New Republic’s Editor-at-Large  Michael Kinsley has a Q & A with Abramson that once again addresses themes from the piece. Their headline: “Grill Jill: The New York Times’ top editor on mean bosses, liberal biases, and the Post’s demise.”

Kinsley was quick to addresses her “meanness.” He also asked what she thinks of Politico. She never addresses Byers by name, but gives quite a shout-out to Politico‘s Maggie Haberman. Watch out Politico…they snagged Jonathan Martin. Might Haberman be next? Read more

Clinton Is Old, Says Republicans (Thanks To NYT)

Three is a trend, right? That’s the magic number whereby you’re allowed to write about something that might only be in your head at the moment? If you get that number then, boom! Story.

That’s what must’ve happened with the New York Times’ Jonathan Martin and his piece on Hillary Clinton this weekend on just how old and female Clinton is and how the Republicans are dying to make that obvious. So… the story is, then, there are a bunch of sexist, ageist misogynists in the Republican party? Wow. That one needs a #breaking hashtag on it if ever a story has.

Mike Allen’s Hoarding Problem: The Photo Evidence

That’s a picture someone sent Gawker of Politico reporter Mike Allen‘s office when he worked at Time Magazine.

Gawker’s John Cook issued a call for the photo after The New Republic’s interview with co-founders John Harris and Jim VandeHei was published earlier this week.

“Our hope is that the photo above will help readers understand, holistically, how a crucial component of the Washington, D.C., media environment operates,” Cook wrote.

Indeed. It was just last earlier this month we were writing about Politico’s Jonathan Martin, who has a bit of a hoarding problem of his own. Judging by these pictures though, Allen could bury him—literally.
