Quotes of the Day — The Mostly Herman Cain Edition

A “kid aide” shields Cain from the media at NPC.

Cain shielded from media

“#HermanCain has kid aide, red rope blocking anyone from approaching his side of head table.” — Chicago Sun-Times Washington Bureau Chief Lynn Sweet, who snapped the above photograph.

Drudge Whores

“Drudge interested in the Cain story.” — Politico‘s Ben Smith. Politico did land top billing on Drudge:POLITICO: Two Women Accused Cain of Inappropriate Behavior…Reporter: ‘We’re Not Going To Get Into Details Of Exactly What Happened’…”

The Judge

“Nothing proclaims self-confident innocence like a refusal to answer questions.” –  David Frum.

Politico‘s Lobby is for Animal Lovers

“Puppies in the @Politico lobby!” — Politico Pro’s Dan Berman. Some may recall that there was recently a penguin in Politico‘s lobby.

Reporters treated like sh&% at AEI-Cain event?

“AEI now barring several reporters from leaving until Cain does. AEI has really had Cain’s back today.” — TPM‘s Evan McMorris-Santoro.

“Note to AEI press officials: you can’t control the subjects the press ask. & if you try you look like the Russians.” — L.A.-based HuffPost blogger Richard Grenell.

“AEI staff not letting reporters out until Cain leaves. Blocking exits.” — Yahoo! News’s Chris Moody.

Who landed Cain? Washington journos who interviewed GOP Presidential contender Herman Cain last night: FNC’s Greta Van Susteren and PBS’s Judy Woodruff. More about his TV appearances in the last 24 hours here.

While Washington spent the day obsessed with Cain, WTOP’s dirty mind went here: “Better sex, health with caveman diet, restaurant claims.” Read here.

Capehart boasts about tie to Mitchell

“Vintage Gucci, Andrea” — WaPo‘s Jonathan Capehart to NBC Chief Foreign Correspondent Andrea Mitchell after she complimented him on his orange Halloween tie on her program Monday.

Fun and Games

“I’m vaguely familiar with the Sheriff. #ButNotTheDeputy #CainSchool” — Mother Jones‘s Washington Bureau Chief David Corn couldn’t stop providing examples of “Cain School.” Pretty funny sequence of Tweets, actually.

The Media Critic

“Greta Van S on Fox News doing a good job working over Cain, giving him as much rope as he wants.” — The Guardian‘s Richard Adams on Van Susteren’s interview with Cain last night.

Hazy is the “Hot Maddow”

“New issue of Rolling Stone labels @chrislhayes the “Hot Maddow.” #okaythen” — Slate‘s Dave Weigel on fellow Boybander MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, who has slowly but surely been morphing into colleague Rachel Maddow.

Unnecessary Tweet of the Day

“I cant decide if I should wear rollerblades to the bars tonight or not.” — Katherine Kennedy. Light bulb: Maybe Corn can help you with that and you can help him with his TV purchase.

Brenner, Sohmer Launch HyperVocal

Lee Brenner, former Senior Producer at CNN and Political Director for MySpace has partnered with former EP of Lou Dobbs Slade Sohmer for a new internet news venture.  Named HyperVocal, the site launched yesterday with the mission to “aggregate the most comprehensive summary of the hyper-frenetic news cycle for the so-called Facebook Generation.”

“With HyperVocal we’re scouring the range of media relevant to our audience based on what we are interested in ourselves and what our readers bring to our attention; we combine the rules of professional journalism with the real voice of this generation—smart yet snarky, sophisticated yet sassy, and evidently, alliterative,” said Sohmer who now serves as HyperVocal’s EIC and co-founder.

The site has already signed an eclectic mix of activist bloggers to compliment their aggregated news stream.  Their roster includes actress and co-founder of Voto Latino Rosario Dawson, Blonde Charity Mafia’s Katherine Kennedy, and Blake Skjellerup, openly-gay short-track Olympic speedskater.

HyperVocal ‘s business model includes traditional ad sales and partner-driven revenue, as well as sponsorship of the daily newsletter, site and section takeovers, sponsorship of videos and content and forthcoming mobile applications.  Check it out here.

Journos Under the Grand Chapiteau

cirque de soleil - press night.jpg

Droves of journalists swarmed National Harbor last night for the media preview of Cirque du Soleil’s traveling spectacle, “Ovo.” Reporters from nearly every Washington news outlet were in attendance to indulge in complimentary pop, popcorn and one of the finest Cirque performances this blogger has ever seen.

Under the grand chapiteau FishbowlDC spotted WaPo’s Vicky Hallet, Michael O’Sullivan and Nelson Pressley, WTOP’s Richard Day, Washington Life’s John Arundel and Michael Clements, Fox 5′s Steve Chenevey (who was also spotted at Lady Gaga on Tuesday), WBJ’s Missy Frederick, Washingtonian’s Sophie Gilbert, CBS Radio’s Guy Lambert, Hot 99.5′s Samy K (also at Gaga on Tues), HuffPo’s Stephanie Green, CNN’s Padma Rama, Pamela’s Punch’s Pamela Sorensen, TBD’s Maura Judkis and the Examiner’s Nikki Schwab.

And these days you can’t shake a stick without hitting a few reality stars. Last night our stick hit Blonde Charity Mafia’s Katherine Kennedy, as well as Real Housewives of DC stars Lynda Erkiletian, Paul Wharton and Ebong Eka (all sans camera).

Cirque’s Ovo runs at National Harbor until October 24, 2010. It truly is a wonderful show and in my humble opinion, a much more robust experience than seeing a performance in Vegas. It’s worth every penny and the pilgrimage to PG County.

Quote(s) of the day

This begs for a blond joke…pronto

“Question: How much do you tip the plumber for a 20 minute job fixing the water heater that costs $175?” And then she adds, “I must be the only person on the planet who didn’t know you don’t tip the plumber, haha thx.”
- Blonde Charity Mafia’s Katherine Kennedy in frightening Thursday tweets.

Congressman blasts Fox News

“Some of the people can be fools some of the time and Fox is an example of that everyday.” – Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) on Thursday’s “The Ed Show” on MSNBC hosted by fill-in correspondent Cenk Uygur. Of course, Grayson also suggested people may soon start saying President Obama is a martian.

Todd’s ‘perfect storm?’

“A @dailyrundown perfect storm is the Clemens indictment: my love of sports and Congress and @SavannahGuthrie’s love of the law and Congress.”
- NBC’s Chuck Todd in a Thursday tweet.

Deep thoughts with Lynda Erkiletian

“I looked at Tareq and Michaele and thought, ‘I don’t want to be in your energy field.’” – The ever classy and deep Lynda Erkiletian on Thursday night’s episode of “The Real Housewives of D.C.” She’s referring to the Salahis.

White Out with DC Mag

With the help of DC magazine, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams got white hot last night. The 14th St. furniture boutique held their annual White Party, complete with famed New York music maven, DJ Lady Bunny, two open bars and a slew of desserts. FishbowlDC ran into Fox 5′s Will Thomas, Katherine Kennedy, Paul Wharton, Facebook’s Andrew Noyes and of course, DC’s Peter Abrahams and Martha Pheeny.

Washington Life magazine kicked off the summer season last night on the roof of the Donovan House. Guests like The Hill‘s Christina Wilkie, BCM’s Katherine Kennedy, Jennifer Vinson, Daily Caller’s Becca Glover, Victoria Michael, Dewey Square’s Courtney Cohen, Examiner‘s Tara Palmeri, Christina Sevilla and NBC News intern Elyssa Dornic joined Washington Life‘s Kevin Chaffee and John Arundel (Michael Clements was at play practice) for Absolut cocktails, cool grooves and the last few hours of sunlight.

A Good Night to be on the Guest List

Last night, movers and shakers of all ages gathered at the Washington Club in Dupont Circle to toast Washington Life’s annual “Young and the Guest List.”

From the swanky digs and the guests’ stylish threads to the truly superb swag bags (co-sponsored by WL and Moki Media), the event’s “Return to Glamor” theme shined throughout the evening.

In addition to three generations of FishbowlDC – CBS’ Christine Delargy, Politico’s Patrick Gavin, Washingtonian’s Garrett Graff and me, luminaries from every facet of Washington attended the fab fete.

We spotted Top Chef Spike Mendelsohn chatting with White House Chef Sam Kass as well as reality stars Krista Johnson, Katherine Kennedy and Andy Baldwin. The Washington press corps was well-represented by folks such as Tammy Haddad, Angie Goff, Pamela Brown, Politico’s Jonathan Martin and Kiki Ryan, Examiner’s Nikki Schwab, CBS News’ Kaylee Hartung, Daily Caller’s Becca Glover, Amy Holmes, Makeda Sackey-Saggau, The Hill’s Jared Allen, Roll Call’s Jackie Kucinich and UrbanDaddy’s Jeff Dufour with wife, Jayne Sandman.

We also caught up with MTP producer Betsy Fischer (just turned 40) who joked that her date, Politico’s Jonathan Martin, “better make the list next year so [she] could still go to the party.”

“Blonde Charity Mafia” Episodes Surface Online

For months now, I’ve prayed to the reality TV gods for just one…one measly episode of Washington’s shoulda, woulda, coulda reality series, Blonde Charity Mafia. Tonight, my prayers were answered and the gods must be crazy because they sent several episodes of the debunked show starring “it girls” Katherine Kennedy, Krista Johnson and Sophie Pyle and it’s even more amazing than I imagined. Episode one below and three more after the jump. You’re welcome.

Blonde Charity Mafia’s Lead Stilettos

bcm cw.jpg The WaPo Grinch just stole my Christmas, reporting that the first would-be Washington reality series “Blonde Charity Mafia” was gifted a big lump of coal by the CW.

The show’s star Katherine Kennedy tells WaPo‘s Lisa de Moraes that “she’s been told by the series’s producers and by CW that she is free to search for other TV project options.”

Kastles Opening Night in Washington: A Grand Slam

Last night, the press came out in full force to catch a glimpse of Venus Williams; fresh from Wimbledon and playing against the Washington Kastles for the Philadelphia Freedom.

Though Serena Williams, Washington’s headliner didn’t hit the court for our home team, her sister was kind enough to help Kastles Owner Mark Ein kick off the season in style with a news conference, interviews and plenty of photo opps.

Spotted courtside: Mayor Adrian Fenty and family, AOL Co-founder Steve Case, new Cap File EIC Sarah Schaffer, BCM’s Katherine Kennedy, Anystream Founder Geoff Allen, TWT’s Stephanie Green and Liz Glover, Redskins Hall of Famer Darrell Green and the Wizards’ Caron Butler.

If you haven’t been to a Kastles match, go this season. I’m obsessed. You can catch Anna Kournikova tonight or click here for this season’s full schedule.
