Andrea Mitchell to Receive 2015 Matrix Award

andrea_mitchell_a_p_300New York Women in Communications announced their 2015 Matrix Award honorees yesterday– a list that included NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent, Andrea Mitchell.

The 2015 Matrix Awards will be presented on Monday, April 27, 2015 at a luncheon ceremony in New York, honoring seven women who have established themselves in the communications community.

The theme of the 45th annual Matrix Awards is “Women Who Change the World” through their outstanding achievements and talents in the communications fields.

“We are elated to honor these seven remarkable women who have made a lasting impact in the field of communications,” said Linda Descano, President of New York Women in Communications. ”Although they’re all involved in different disciplines of the industry, their accomplishments show that that together, they are truly connecting the world.  We are thrilled to welcome these women into our Matrix Hall of Fame.”

Other honorees include Senator Kirsten Gillibrand; Chairman and CEO of BET Networks, Debra L. LeeJulianna Margulies award-winning actress and producer; editor-in-chief of Elle Magazine, Roberta Myers; Martine Reardon, Chief Marketing Officer of Macy’s; and U.S. Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith.

Last night at the home of Connie Milstein and J.C. de La Haye St. Hilaire, friends and Washington media gathered to toast Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand on her recent publication of Off the Sidelines. Milstein introduced Sen. Gillibrand, who offered remarks and signed copies for attendees.

Members Best Bad News Babes at 6th Annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game

20140618_200438_3Wednesday night near Eastern Market, women members of Congress and the press who cover them gathered for the sixth annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game.

Highlights of the evening: A 10-5 win for the Members over the Bad News Babes, if you were rooting for those elected. $175k raised for the Young Survival Coalition. A first pitch thrown by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords alongside friends Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Gifford’s Tweet to 50 Cent saying, “bet you my first pitch will be better than yours was!” Roll Call’s Abby Livingston named MVP for the press team. House Speaker John A. Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor ‘in the house.’

Lowlights: ‘Feel like’ temperatures of 99* and 95* in the 7 and 8 pm hours last night, respectively. No air conditioning. A third inning injury for Schultz. The temperature.

Separated at Birth: The Julie Mason Edition

Now that SiriusXM’s Julie Mason has made the jump to radio, we see her face a lot less often. As host of the Press Pool on SiriusXM 124, she spends less time at the White House and more time behind the mic talking to journos. Despite that, we couldn’t help but notice her striking resemblance to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).
